Emmylou, like Joni & Rickie Lee & Karla B are my greatest female inspirations/influences. (Emmylou is the only one I have not yet had a conversation with). Interesting in revisiting her life, how there are some parallels with her life & Joni's life. Both had daughters & were single before their career took off (although EL had been married when the marriage broke up she returned home to her parents to raise her daughter). Both were kinda discovered by an already established male artist who helped their career (GP & DC respectively- come to think of it, both loved a Graham!), both have had decades long careers, both are among the most highly respected women in music, and in the late nineties, both had a Blade in their band (pretty sure Brian & Brady are brothers aren't they?) >Dear RR, Kate, Terra, and you know there may be more Emmylou fans: Voila: http://www.charlierose.com/guests/emmylou-harris Don't let the time of 56:01 scare you, it's really only 16 minutes. So passionate about her music.> ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Jun 2008 11:09:59 -0700 (PDT) From: Em Subject: Re: Remembering George Carlin, njc I liked this article: http://www.slate.com/id/2194327 also, tonight, 6/28 on Larry King (9 E) they are doing a kind of memorial show re: George Carlin. - --- On Sat, 6/28/08, Jim L'Hommedieu wrote: > From: Jim L'Hommedieu > Subject: Remembering George Carlin, njc > To: joni@smoe.org > Date: Saturday, June 28, 2008, 10:38 AM > Mr. Carlin has left the building. Carlin died of a heart attack on Sunday. He was 71. SNL creator Lorne Michaels says, "He was gracious, fearless, and most of all, funny." " Shine on good humor. (And shine on the 70s, Muller! LOL! But don't worry: we can't return, we can only look behind from where we came.) There is a little (2:18) video tribute here. It begins w/ a 15-second commercial for beautiful New Hampshire, so I'm a wildwood flower right now waving for ya, Jody Girl and David E! http://www.courant.com/entertainment/tv/hc-nujava0628.artjun28,0,3052888.story On second viewing, the commercial is different. I guess they rotate them or something? I hope you get the NH one. It has cool water and boats. (TIC! I'm going to get a boat and we can row it...) Peace, Patti P. P.S. "Tonight's forecast? Dark." (-- GC) or rather "Dazzling darkness." (-- JM) "If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace." -- John Lennon _________________________________________________________________ Need to know now? I can only imagine how awful it must be in the midst of all these fires... Kate >Today the smoke is so bad you can't go outside, and has blotted out the sun. The govuhnator has finally declared our county a state of emergency, which will bring more resources in. A chopper is going over right now. There is also concern about the possibility of more thunderstorms this weekend. Things are a bit crazy around here, but, as some wisewoman said, "Be Cool"...
