Yes, the girls of the show may be into fashion and shoes and such but it is more than that. Yes, the show is light. There is some drama in it but so many laughs which tends to keep it a light show. I'll tell you what I personally love about the show. First off, the show is about 4 women (very different women mind you) which any woman could relate to atleast one of them. There is beauty in that. Secondly, it is an in depth look into the relationships between men and women from the woman's point of view (once again, 4 different povs as there are 4 main characters). It shows these women going through love while hitting all of life's road bumps. Life and love. That is universal! Lastly (which could be most importantly), the basis of the show, the magic of the show is in the friendship between the 4 women--their loyalty to each other is admirable. No matter what happens, they are there for each other. It makes you a little jealous as these are the friends you wish you had! -Monika, who had to show some love for her show! Patti Parlette wrote: So make me the fifth. Of course, I never even watched one episode, so maybe I should shut my mouth (TIC! like yours), but it just never appealed to me. It just seems so superficial. I usually prefer deep, not superficial between the you-know-whats. Although I *have* watched my share of superficial stuff, so I am certainly not dissing anyone who likes the show. It's just not my cup of tea. (Graham TIC: "I travel in a bubble and I can't relate." ) Now I know some have been calling it "Sex in the City", but I saw in the paper (and Monika also wrote it correctly) that's it's "Sex and the City." So let me take that contradiction out and splash it on your brows. If it were "Sex in the City", that's wrong wrong wrong, and stupidly named. It's "NIGHT in the City", you moron writer! And don't you know that sex kills? And the gas leaks And the oil spills And sex sells everything And sex kills Sex kills Sex kills Sex kills Sex kills So why would you write a show about it? Sheesh. Love, Patti P. P.S. Our student newspaper has a regular column called: Sex and the University. If I were the mother of the girl who writes it (it is very explicit), I'd be a mortified Myrtle. _________________________________________________________________ Make every e-mail and IM count. Again, according to Girls Like Us, Joni and James got together in July 1970 at the Mariposa Festival. It was in August that Joni went to visit James on the set of "Two Lane Blacktop." (The author surmises that "This Flight Tonight" was written about that trip.) By the fall they were in England, and Joni was writing at least some of the songs for Blue. Joni and James showed up at Carly's April 6th, 1971 show at the Troubador in L.A., and by November, Joni and James were no longer together, and Carly and James hooked up at his concert on Nov. 9th in NYC. They were married a year later, by which time, of course, Joni had bought her property in BC and retreated there to write For the Roses, which is, by all accounts, mostly about James. A question for Bob Muller: Has anyone recorded a cover of Lessons? Sorry, > just too lazy to check the website. > > According to the JMDL and the Harry Fox Agency, no one has as yet > officially recorded "Lesson in Survival." > As for the friend referred to in the song---I'll ask Sheila Weller on her blog if she knows (and is at liberty to reveal) who that person is. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I sincerely regret breaking my personal rule ("You, who are on the road, must have a code, that you can live by" ) of never posting anything negative. (Ha. With the glaring exception, of course, of the Bush administration. But don't let me get started on *that* ce soir!) Pardonnez-moi. I'm going through a period of upheaval and disruption in my little ranch house on the hill. I'll tell you about it later. Chacun a son gout. (That's French for John Lennon's "whatever gets you through the night", or Joni's reply to the "Play what you want!" shout-out on MOA: "All righhhhhhhhht!", or Sherelle's "Do What You Love".) Jawohl. Here's to being there for each other, and friendship! Love, Patti P. P.S. I thought of you tonight when I drove by the "Mansfield Drive-In Theater" (One of only two left in the state -- remember drive-in theaters, all you aging children? "Sometimes Chickie had the car or Ron had the car....)" The marquee said: "Sex IN the City". I would not call "Sex and the City" superficial and I'll tell you why. (Sorry, I know that word is over-used, but it fits right now.) Perfect, for girls and boys like us. Questions of a thousand Joni dreams: Who wrote this? Are the writers on this list? (LOL....Smurf and I were flying under Muller's radar, trying to keep it a surprise. Busted.) Jamie, why aren't you in it? Will you attend with some ladies of our canyon? (Anita, Lieve, Queen Lucy?) Will it be taped so we all can see it? I want to see it! (stomping my feet like a spoiled brat). As a Mitchellian Completist (Hi Kenny B and Bo), I say: "A Joni woman must have everything. A Joni woman must have everything!" Et non, Catherine. I do not have a starring role. Mais merci, quand meme, for the mention. Je t'embrasse. You made me feel like a natural Joni woman mooooOOOOOoooovie queen. Much Joni, yeah! Patti P. P.S. Just got the latest digest as I was writing, and only got to skim it....wish I had more time on my hands to comment on every post, but I'm fading in a suburban room again. Merde! More covers from our King, and the Lesson In Survival thread...oh, mon Dieu. You guys rock. Rolling, rolling, rock and rollllING! Carry on. "We are Joni Mitchell", indeed. _________________________________________________________________ Give to a good cause with every e-mail. Loved the tv show too. Always very witty, very well crafted, well acted. What other movie today has a line in it humorously referencing Diane Arbus and expects anyone to get it? SATC is about fashion and fluff in the same way as The Devil Wears Prada or Robert Altman's Pret a' Porter. It is just a device to get at something else. An added bonus that is looks so good!
