She smolders and it's almost as if joni wrote the song for her.. It's priceless!! now, funny enough(great minds think alike i guess Laura), My favorite is also Leonard Cohen and the Jungle Line..I am not a huge fan of his yet(mostly know him from tori amos' amazing! cover of famous blue raincoat) and I am not sure if he actually sang much on his previous recordings but the spoken word fits it sooo perfectly! I can only imagine how proud joni was to hear this record for the first time..I know there have been tributes before but this one comes from a place very close to her.A close friend like herbie.. Imagine if it had sucked(impossible I know) However talk about a strain in teh friendship..haha..Lucky herbie rarely misses! Does anyone know if herbie every "produced" anything Joni released? I 've always imagined the Mingus sessions to be a group effort with Joni at the helm. Laura Stanley wrote: Kevin wrote: I am not sure if this has been discussed yet..If so I missed it and am sorry.. The piano is so captivating and interesting weaved together with Cohen's deep voice. Just listen to There ain't no cure for love, or So long Marianne, or Susanne or...or...Joni and Leonard are the two singers/songwriters I have appreciated most all my adult life, since the late sixties. They are voices in my head:-) (I like Dylan, too, but he never sang very well so his voice is not that memorable to me). Must admit I haven't heard The Jungle line on River yet, though. I did read that LC reads it rather than sings it. "CSNY Political Round Table: Rockers Argue Merits of Music and Protest .....In a half-hour conversation, Graham Nash mostly sits quietly and listens. Stephen Stills, just a few weeks after having prostate cancer, laughs loudly and interjects with jokes. As in their music, Crosby and Young guide the discussion, alternating perspectives and sometimes clashing....." "...Neil Young stares intensely..." ha! Comme d'habitude, and just like in the Joni felt-pen drawing that is staring at me right now. There's a great picture of them, too. I love Neil's crooked smile, and *don't* get me going on Willy! I will always love these rock and roll choir boys. Voila: http://www.courant.com/entertainment/movies/hc-sholede0217.artfeb17,0,4539491.story Carry on! NJC I am heading out in the morning for Vancouver B.C. to see John Mellencamp at the Pacific Coliseum. I am very fortunate to have front row tickets and was the winner of the Meet & Greet with John after the show. This will be my first time meeting John after having seen him live somewhere between 25 and 30 times. I am so excited I probably won't be able to sleep tonight. Does anyone have a suggestion for a nice spot for dinner prior to the show? John is a huge Joni fan too so perhaps I will be able to chat a moment with him about which is his favorite Joni album. I'm on my Way...
