I love the idea of doing this more and more in my own life. For me, the hardest is probably food shopping. Let's face it, everything gets shipped in by what are probably big trucking companies... so where do you draw the line? I love the Ani DiFranco approach to publishing and marketing too. When I looked at making my book available to the big chains, it was ridiculous. First off, they'd take pretty much all my profits (which would leave pennies for me and the non-profit I'm splitting the proceeds with). Then, they'd print a bunch, which might sit up in a loft somewhere... not very green (instead I'm doing print on demand)... and then, finally, they could decide that my book was out of print if it didn't meet their quota. Instead, I'm the publisher and I control that. And I have to say that I was a tad disappointed in Joni making Shine available through Starbucks. Talk about a chain! If she'd made it available online only, I would have been duly impressed. Still haven't gotten into it... soon... lots of love, Anne ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Feb 2008 19:36:28 +0100 From: "Marian Russell" Subject: Re: Shadows and Light vs. Shadows and Light Thank you, Bob.
