Lovingly, Jeannie How do you pray in a world like this? Today, I pray with Joni's and Rickie Lee's music playing in my head and I'm climbing up the hill towards the lights that shine no matter the pain or the price to pay for these truths. ~nj~ - --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Amazing both nights.... It's is kinda magical what she does, the songs become the thing, and she's merely a channel for them. Her live renditions of 'Coolsville' are still the most haunting and raw performances that ever I have heard from a singer. I think there may be a pic of me and RLJ in her cab on my facebook, where I snatched a few words with her and the bouncer took our pic. Ahh.... Absolutely amazing. It was as if she was possessed by some divine spirit. I truly felt that I was in the presence of something holy. We have 5 TV's hooked up and HD for the same cost we were paying for 2 TV's and no HD through cable. Bree got this for us and was such a big help when we were deciding just what to get and trying to understand it all. It is good to have somebody you know to explain it to you. She's the best!!! We are so happy with the lower cost than cable and the higher quality with more HD channels. We are wondering why we didn't get this before now?! We have Sirus radio on the service too, and there is a Sinatra station that played Joni. Highly recommend this from Bree. So I've been driving this new car (new to me anyway) for a few days now, listening to Hejira and Don Juan's Reckless Daughter and I'm blown away by how much clearer they sound on a better system. It's like completely rediscovering the music. Jaco's bass playing in particular sounds so good when you can actually hear it... or the guitar on Silky Veils of Ardor...so crisp and clear. In the old car I had found myself subconsciously just choosing to listen to sports/talk radio most of the time because the stereo was so lame but now I'm finding I can enjoy listening to music again when I'm driving. I know that there is a whole spectrum when it comes to audio equipment and probably just as wide a spectrum when it comes to what one person hears as opposed to another...but I've been so struck but the difference in what I'm hearing. It's like seeing things a little blurry then putting on a pair of glasses. I was tremendously impressed with his performance. I thought he almost surpassed his father in some ways. That night he reminded me of a cross between Stephen and Rufus Wainwright. I recall (singer-songwriter and bro of Sean) Michael Penn was there and got up and raved about Chris. Thanks to Catherine for the information about his mother. That was a very good read. Chip teaches music history at McGill University in Montreal. He is the author of articles on Benjamin Britten, Maurice Ravel, Bernard Herrmann, and minimalism, and co-editor of the book Queer Episodes in Music and Modern Identity. The book is currently available for pre-order in both hardcover and paperback. Chip's article from 2002 entitled Harmonic palette in early Joni Mitchell is one of the all-time most-read items from the Library, so this book should prove to be an important addition to any fan's collection." http://www.jonimitchell.com/news/index.cfm Richard - -----Original Message----- From: owner-joni@smoe.org [mailto:owner-joni@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Deb Messling Sent: Friday, February 01, 2008 10:08 PM To: joni@smoe.org Subject: The Music of Joni Mitchell by Lloyd Whitesell Does anybody have any insight about this forthcoming title?
