Is it not also fair to say that the folk/blues musicians mentioned tended to stick pretty much to received musical forms, either lifting tunes straight or adapting them? (Worth remembering too that J initially thought of Dylan as a copycat, a folky imitator.) Or, ok, it could be her ego going rampant again, but thats not how i picked it up! In the very, very early days Dylan tried to imitate Woody Guthrie. He said he wanted to be Woody Guthrie! I think maybe his first album even was an imitation of that (though don't quote me on that as I can't remember...I've heard his first album but don't own it). -M Michel BYRNE wrote: (Worth remembering too that J initially thought of Dylan as a copycat, a folky imitator.) Watching the charlie rose video again(I should have before i posted that last one) I can see why people would be upset about what she said and furhermore..how she said it..so matter of fact...I still go back to the generational thing..Because I've never understood the feeling of male/female roles..Either that's my genetics or the way I was nurtured..Either way FOR ONCE(A breakthru I will share with "the group") I do not agree with something our Joni said... It is hard, when he sounds a lot like his dad, not to compare the two or to expect the son to be like the Dad. I certainly would not say he sucks- far from it. Or perhaps I should say he did not suck back then. I think it was almost 10 years ago I heard him so fwiw (hahaha little pun). Kate >Hi I have been told the cds are OK but you know how it is in the studio and also he can hire the best side men. I saw him real up close and i can guarantee that his playing sucks big time. His piano is better, he must have spent more time with his mom than his dad. Not only that, but no talent IMO and my musician friend who was there thought the same thing.< ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Jan 2008 13:14:24 -0500 From: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com Subject: Some Joni vinyl that you don't have (on vinyl anyway) http://tinyurl.com/2d8dqd Bob NP: AC/DC, "Evil Walks" - ------------------------------------------------------------ The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain proprietary, business-confidential and/or privileged material. I don't understand why Joni doesn't get these cleaned up and put out; I mean Dylan has had enough old sets dug up and released. Really is stunning though.
