Finally gave me some idea of why Joni married Chuck (except for the explanations she has given herself but they always seemed incomplete. I always thought or hoped that there must have been more reasons for her to get married to Chuck than "just" creating a home for her child, although I do believe her when she says that was what she was hoping for. While it's possible that Joni saw or read the phrase somewhere and lifted it (it would not be the first time), I'm under the impression that this is another bit of her original genius. A unique way to suspect someone is not willing to throw themselves headlong into a relationship because they're afraid of some kind of failure. I've always loved the song, both musically and lyrically. I love Klein's bass riff. It's been covered a couple of times too, and I know that Paz digs it so I'm in good company. One of her rockin'est. They screamed in the middle on In France They Kiss On Main Street and S&L and another songs!!! (IFTKOMS is my favorite track from the album) But, the rowdiness the audiences brought really added another dimension to the album. Miles of Aisles is a concert that was intimate, at that time, Joni was really a woman of heart and mind. But S&L is different. It was not intimate, but more fun.
