And I admit I was very fond of some of his songs, namely Wisteria and Part of the Plan. But for those of us who hail from Kentucky, as I do, Run for the Roses remains in the top five most annoying songs of all times. (Up there with All by Myself and, say, all of Celine Dion, Michael Bolton and Kenny G.) I also loved his cover of a Judy Collins song very much, can't remember which one. I had no idea he was only 56. - --Aleda - -------------- Original message from Brian Gross : -------------- > --- Bryan wrote: > > Oh God, I read Dan died today of prostate cancer. I can see why it might in that case although, upon his passing away, I find it strangely poignant and I agree with the sentiment...now is the moment, it comes and then its gone, life is precious. Like Emimem says, "You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow, This opportunity comes once in a lifetime" The gathering I go to every year over Labor Day, the music festival where we stay up all night jamming is often called "the dance"...so that line about joining in the dance really resonates with me. And it's a beautiful melody. My mother's parents are from Louisville though the only time I've ever visited Kentucky was when I was all of 2, maybe 3 years old. I had no idea this morning when I woke up that I'd be talking about Dan Fogelberg and Emimem in the same post. The 72 which is circulating as Olympia is actually from the Salle Pleyel. Likewise, the 83 Olympia is really from the Theatre des Champs Elysees. (The 2nd 83 venue Theatre Mogador is correct) Laurent ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Dec 2007 23:56:25 -0500 From: Victor Johnson Subject: pianos and/or can I walk beside you So I went to this play at this holiday party today and after the Friday night fiasco, I was wondering what kind of piano would be there and I was totally blown away...it was like the complete opposite. A beautiful Boston baby grand piano that was just heavenly. I don't usually get to play really nice pianos so when I do its so overwhelmingly awesome and I play so much better. The tone and resonance of the keys were just magical. I get so used to the many dull, lifeless ones they have at school so playing this was switching from canned tuna to caviar. It was especially fun playing early 70's Stevie Wonder, cascades of chords and arpeggios over achingly beautiful melodies, or just a simple melody like Schubert Ave Maria, leaving me awash in its modest, timeless beauty. Then can I walk beside you I have come here to lose the smog And I feel to be a cog in something turning Well maybe it is just the time of year Or maybe its the time of man I dont know who l am But you know life is for learning We are stardust We are golden And weve got to get ourselves Back to the garden ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Dec 2007 05:05:08 +0000 From: Patti Parlette Subject: Dan Fogelberg NJC Oh, I am so very shocked to hear this sad news. "Shower the people you love with love. Show them the way that you feel." You just never know. "And in the end, the love you take, it equal to the love you make." You take a whole lot of love, Dan.
