LOS ANGELES, NOVEMBER 20, 2007 - The Troubadour is honored to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a return three-night engagement, November 28, 29 and 30, from two of its most beloved singer/songwriters, Carole King and James Taylor. The special performances will feature songs from their 1969 debut Troubadour shows that helped propel them both from virtual unknowns to the world stage. King and Taylor will reunite with guitarist Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel and bassist Lee Sklar, famous in their own right as The Section. There will be two performances each night with ticket proceeds benefiting charities including Natural Resources Defense Council, MusiCares, Alliance for the Wild Rockies and the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, a member of America's Second Harvest'The Nation's Food Bank Network. "James Taylor is an artist that helped define the room and establish it as the most famous night club in the country," says Brian Smith, The Troubadour's booker. "In these walls there is a deep musical history that spans many generations. To have Carole and James back to help celebrate the last 50 years and to bring in the next 50...is quite an honor." ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Nov 2007 13:41:46 -0500 From: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com Subject: Re: Nice blog post about Woodstock That's true - I added a comment to the guy's blog and told him to check out "Passion Play" next. Like you said, she did DJRD and (surprisingly) "Talk To Me" on her 1976 tour. She did a rocking version of "Cotton Avenue" on her 1983 world tour. It was very strange when I first heard that one but it's cool in context of the band she had at the time. She performed "Jericho" in Oklahoma City in '79 but I don't think she liked the arrangement with the Metheny-Jaco band because I don't think she performed it again on that historic tour. Could be wrong on that. She did play Jericho at the "Save The Whales" benefit in '76. Then again, you could say that "Jericho" was a MOA song since that's when she first released it. You're right, that album was not really integrated much into her live shows. The beauty of this garden is complete when all of these exist as a unity, thereby spreading the vibrations of love and oneness. May all minds become one in love. Can't wait for THAT one! Good things are happening (amid the bad). Light the lamp! Love & Peace, Patti P. P.S. Toujours dans l'aeroport, killing time in a bookstore, I flipped through Tom Brokaw's new book: "Boom! Voices of the Sixties: Personal Reflections on the '60s and Today" and of course, the first thing that I did was look in the back for Joni Mitchell. There were four mentions....no great shakes, but at least she was there. Looks like a good read, but I don't like to pay full price, so this one will have to wait. I only caught part of it but the part I did see was very interesting. MSNBC will be airing this special again on Saturday afternoon for anyone who might be interested to see who Joni was singing about. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14337492/ Check for air times in your area. Go ahead and skip: (pick 3) NONE Live: (pick 1) One of my alltime favorite performances is joni with the band doing shadows and light from "the last waltz"...besides that Miles of Aisles is a perfect live album To start with: (pick 1, some compilation) I guess Hits and Misses Monika Bogdanowicz wrote: Q magazine always has a section in which they choose an artist or band and list 3 of their albums in each category. The categories being essentials, recommended, be careful, go ahead and skip, live (in which they choose just one), and to start off with (which usually is a compilation of some sort). They do this in the current issue with the Who. In the past I've seen this done with Neil Young, U2, I think the Clash, etc. So if you had to do that for Miss Mitchell's albums, which three albums would you pick for the categories? Obviously all of her albums won't be mentioned but that doesn't matter. Give it a go. Essentials: (pick 3) Recommended: (pick 3) Be careful: (pick 3) Go ahead and skip: (pick 3) Live: (pick 1) To start with: (pick 1, some compilation) I won't fill this out as I don't have all of Joni's albums just yet. I am working on it with lightning speed folks. - -Monika - --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Kakki dear (Joni-reporter extraordinaire) from the City of the Fallen Angels, do you know anything about this? Pray tell! Or maybe you are with these "etoiles scintillantes" (that's what JT called Joni at the Canadian Songwriter's Hall of Frame induction) just at this moment of the world! xo, pp _________________________________________________________________ Share life as it happens with the new Windows Live.Download today it's FREE! http://www.windowslive.com/share.html?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_Wave2_sharelife_112007 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Nov 2007 01:40:38 -0500 From: "Eric Taylor" Subject: The massive mess we're in NJC During the past few years something extremely troubling and unexpected has occurred on earth. Glaciers and ice sheets all over the planet have begun melting at an alarming rate which climatologists had predicted wouldn't happen until around 2100 due to increasing carbon buildup in the atmosphere. Over the past few decades the average temperature in Alaska has risen by 4.16 degrees fahrenheit. Arctic sea ice has thinned by 40 percent. No one seems to know why this is happening so suddenly and too few seem to grasp the magnitude of this crisis. Climatologists, who were all dead wrong about the rate of global warming and polar melting, still are only calling for a twenty-three inch rise of the oceans by the end of this century. Well the genius who invented the technology which discovered the ozone holes and provided the only model now used to explain global warming (back in 1960) ~ James Lovelock ~ warns: "Scientists know from the geologic record that 3 million years ago, when temperatures increased to five degrees above today's level, the seas rose not by twenty-three inches but by more than eighty feet." EIGHTY FEET!!! HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!! Do we incredibly self-absorbed humans even begin to grasp the massive mess we're in? Thank G~d 4 SHINE spot-lighting this all-important crisis hopefully before it's too late. Perhaps this ecocollapse will unite our little world to WAKE UP and contribute something much better than mere money to help!
