Well I've finally gotten around to reading Pattie Boyd's semi autobiography about her relationships with George Harrison and Eric Clapton (I'm just on page 109 but will surely be done by the end of the weekend). It took quite a while to get it from the library as there were over a hundred holds on it! Not to mention I had a few other books to get through. Anyway, there was a Joni mention in it. Nothing so fantastic or enlightening but still a little mention. Pattie Boyd and George Harrison rented a place in L.A. and Pattie met Joni while George was out busy. She said while they were in L.A. they had met a lot of "fantastic people." Following that line, she said Joni Mitchell came over one day and invited her to hang out. She said she was great fun and they went to a recording studio of a friend's of hers and a few musicians showed up and they played. Later on she met David Crosby. That's it. Nothing big or grand or anything like that. -Monika - --------------------------------- Be a better pen pal. Text or chat with friends inside Yahoo! Mail. Having smoked from 15-30, I can also vouch for that comment. But Joni is a chain smoker - to the point where she lights up on stage during her encore. I believe this is the first time I've seen her w/o a smoke in...gosh, as long as I can remember. She's always gotten them all to let her break the rules - but not this time. Maybe not so much her face (acorn-like) as the shape of her head... but that aside, I guess I just meant a little body in the hair - like in the Two Grey Rooms and Nothing Can Be Done videos, or even her 'hollywood hair' in PWWAM - - she looked absolutely drop dead gorgeous there. Overall I'd agree - Joni looks good. I just thought the contrast between her hair (and it's flatness) and the bronze of her skin read a little oddly on TV. It's funny she doesn't place the blame where it belongs--on John and if you really need to spread out the blame, place some on the Beatles and all their success. I think John felt really guilty about the whole Julian situation and tried to do better the second time around--with Sean. Then I woke up. **** Cool dream, Marian! Thanks for sharing. By candle light, by jewel light, if only you hadn't woken up, she would have stayed! Did you grab at the air because there's nothing there? Ah, her evasiveness stings when you wake up. I hate that! I have had many Joni dreams. (Go figure.) One of the most memorable was when our UConn Huskies won the National Championship in basketball in 2004. Not just one, but BOTH sides now: the mens' AND the women's teams (a first in NCAA history) (because you know two championships are better than one) within a span of two days. Our tiny little state was delirious, and our campus was the epicenter of that dizzy dancing way you feel. I dreamed that there was a big parade on campus, and I was out there rah rah rah hooray for our side for our teams, when suddenly Joni appeared on a noisy corner, in front of our Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts. In my dream, I was screaming at all the students and the marching bands and the floats: "Wait a minute! Stop! Joni Mitchell is here!" Nobody stopped to hear me, so Joni took my hand into her impossibly gentle hand (she had blood red fingernails in the dream) and we started to walk away from the parade towards the Jorgensen Center. She was very loving and kind. Then I woke up. Merde! I missed a private concert with Joni! I had another Joni dream just the other night, after the Charlie Rose show. This one was more nebulous, but I was in a big house with lots of pretty people there, reading Rolling Stone, reading Vogue, when I got a note on lilac sprays from a young girl I have not seen in over 30 years. Her name is Louise, and she was the little sister of my brother's best friend in high school. The note said: "Patti and Joni! We have got to get ourselves back to the garden!" (I now remember Louise as a very sweet girl, who loved Joni. She was/is about 5 years younger that me. I heard, after the fact, that she "snuck" into my ceremony of the bells and lace in 1977. I guess it has always haunted me that I didn't invite her to the whole shebang...I just didn't know how much she wanted to come. I wonder where she is now, that sweet Cherokee Louise. I should look her up. Her name is Louie Santry. Any Jonibody know her?) In the dream, we were desperately seeking Joni and Joni people. I had some papers in my hand with jmdl addresses on them but they were blurred and hard to read. And then I woke up. Joni dreams are good in the great plan! Wishing you all good Joni dreams (especially that the wars are done), Patti P. P.S. Thanks for thinking of me during the Husky game last night, Musik Meister. I am ashamed to say that I have almost forgotten about Husky Hoops during all this Joni hoopla! Its not ROTC, but ROTR. ROTR = Refuge of The Road, the video. (I love mentioning ROTR since it's close to LOTR = Lord Of The Ring) ROTR is Jonis first long form video since Shadows and Light. It was intended to be a documentary movie of Jonis WTRF world concert. But, i think the documentary is not enough. Its just Joni with her band (incl Larry Klein) singing in a stage with no audiences. There are a few documentaries and fake applauses between the songs. The documentaries consist of unclear conversations between Joni and the band, conversations between the band and Joni, conversations between the band members, Joni monologue, backstage videos, and a few videos taken by Joni using a video recorder. Oh ya, just like S&L, youll find some movie clips. Trivia : Borat did a cameo here. (LOL. Dont believe this!) (The 80s state of cuteness always makes me laugh) About Jewels records. Well. Im not Jewel expert. So, this writing may be incorrect. Maybe other JMDLers can correct my fault (if theres any) Her recording is like Jonis: Every album has its uniqueness and has its own sound. Her first album Pieces of You is very minimalist, some of them are recorded live in a small cafe/bar/something. The lyrics are beautiful, and some of them, if not beautiful, make you think. Like this one: "Pieces Of You" She's an ugly girl, does it make you want to kill her? She's an ugly girl, do you want to kick in her face? She's an ugly girl, she doesn't pose a threat. She's an ugly girl, does that make you feel safe? Ugly girl, ugly girl, do you hate her 'Cause she's pieces of you? She's a pretty girl, does she make you think nasty thoughts? She's a pretty girl, do you want to tie her down? She's a pretty girl, do you call her a bitch? She's a pretty girl, did she sleep with your whole town? Pretty girl, pretty girl, do you hate her 'Cause she's pieces of you? You say he's a faggot, does it make you want to hurt him? You say he's a faggot, do you want to kick in his brain? You say he's a faggot, does he make you sick to your stomach? You say he's a faggot, are you afraid you're just the same? Faggot, Faggot, do you hate him 'Cause he's pieces of you? You say he's a Jew, does it mean that he's tight? You say he's a Jew, do you want to hurt his kids tonight? You say he's a Jew, and never wear that funny hat again. You say he's a Jew, as though being born wear a sin. Oh Jew, oh Jew, do you hate him 'Cause he's pieces of you? Do you hate him Cause hes pieces of you? Her 2nd album, Spirit contains Hands, which Patti like. Her third This Way sounds a lil bit country. Her fourth 0304 is the most mainstream/pop. Teens who listen to Kelly Clarkson can easily like the songs. Her fifth Goodbye Alice In Wonderland, i dont know. I dont have this one. Jewel songs that i like the most: You Were Meant For Me Who Will Save Your Soul Foolish Games (edit) Morning Song, from Pieces of You Hands Everybody Needs Someone Sometime Break Me Serve The Ego This Way, from This Way Becoming Doin Fine U + Me = Love Fragile Heart, from 0304 Honorable mentions: Life Uncommon Down So Long, from Spirit Actually i tried to upload 3 of them, but it seems like now i have a problem with my internet connection. And for Marian, you told us that you have 1 of her albums, the cover was white. (You forgot an album you bought????). Well, thats Pieces of You. The Indonesian version has a different cover, so at first, i have no idea what album was that. Trivia : Her name is real. She once lived in a van. Yes, it is another rags to riches story. Rian NP.
