The Dream Flat Tires tour. Perfect! Well I can review the show - it was a crazy good time and the room was packed with fabulous people and Donna the Texas Tush herself made a surprise visit and Kerry came and I tried to convince her to come back to fest. I hope it worked. It was also about 100 degrees and I was so drenched in sweat my thumb pick wouldn't stay on. Oh and I performed next to a life size cutout of Xena: Warrior Princess. By the way, Suze is the most gracious (and hilarious) hostess. My thanks to her for letting us crash at her beautiful house and basically take it over. I even left cookies crumbs in her bed. Good lord. Thanks Suze, Kay, Anita, Marian, and Bob for the kind reviews. People are going to start thinking you all are getting a cut of the profits! Bob, I laughed out loud when I imagined sharing the stage with Joni. How would I hold my guitar while bowing at her feet? Love sitting next to her in your carousel though! I've heard one rough track off Kay's CD and it's gorgeous - ethereal, transcendent. I can't wait to hear the whole thing. Jenny On 11/15/07, Sue Cameron wrote: > > Hope everyone is doing well. Ok, since I do have a few minutes I will write to say that I was lucky enough to catch two of Jenny's performances when she was in Wisconsin. The first was at Cafe Carpe in Ft. Atkinson, where Jenny rocked out to a whole five of us in the midweek audience. Her performance was great, and I am not sure if having rowdy me in the audience made it better or worse! She and Beth collaborated on The Good Daughter, just as recorded on the CD, and that was marvelous. Jenny and Beth limped back to my home about an hour and a half away from the venue on one low tire. It was a long drive through the dark Wisconsin night but the Toyota made it slowly but surely. Thursday was a night off, and since the arduous midwest tour was getting to her I offered to splurge for a big time meal at the local tavern within walking distance of my home. Yes, welcome to Wisconsin, where there is a bar within walking distance of every home built. Probably why I moved here; anyway, I digress. While eating dinner and talking about the world in general a few familiar chords struck up through the bar's sound system. Jenny and I looked incredulously at each other as Joni's voice wafted into the space. Yes, folks, we heard two songs from Shine, and it was Joni serendiptiy hard at work. Just a great moment to share with a kindred spirit. So we had our dinner and went back and watched DVR episodes of The Office, and laughed until we cried. If Jenny says I am hilarious, then I owe it all to Steve Carell and the rest of the cast of The Office. We watched the season opener which I thought was brilliant! Friday came and Beth and Jenny made their way to Milwaukee and while I was working Kerry collected the mystery guest, Texas Tush Donna Binkley who flew in under Jenny's radar for the show. The funny thing was she was guessing who the 'mystery guest' might be and her first selection was Donna, so I had to throw her off the scent. Lucy, thank goodness you were on the American continent, as I used you to divert Jenny's attention. That evening after a great meal cooked by Kerry and Linda, Kerry, Donna and I zipped over to the house concert venue, not far from Kerry's house in suburban Milwaukee. Jenny was right, for October 5th the weather was global warming hot, and the basement, packed with people there to see Beth and Jenny, did not make matters any better. Jenny and Xena were in rare form. As Kerry mentioned, Xena's singing was a bit flat, but the crowd roared for Jenny and she obliged us with an additional song, so we were thrilled! All I can say is that if you don't have Jenny's CD you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy. When I play my old recordings from fests past, you can hear how these songs have evlolved. It is cool to listen now to these finely performed and produced pieces. Ok, back to work! Happy Thursday. n.p. On Jackie Robinson day, certain players on each team wore the number 42, and in some cases, whole teams wore 42 like the Los Angeles Dodgers, whom Jackie played for. The number 42 is also the only number that has been retired in every single stadium across the major leagues. Mariano Rivera, closer for the Yankees (though at the moment a free agent) wears 42 but is an exception as he was wearing 42 before it was officially retired. Very cool! Joni looked like she was having fun and her delivery was so soulful and strong. I was listening to 'For the Roses' in the car on the way home from work tonight. I got to thinking that, even when she was singing in that pristine soprano voice, Joni has always sung like she's telling you something. Like she's actually speaking to you. But singing. I can't explain it any better than that. I think a big part of why we love her so much is that she's such a genius at communicating when she performs. The excellence of the lyrics and the music have a lot to do with it. But she has a way of getting straight into your head and heart that is very powerful. Thanks to U-Tube I did finally see the CBS Sunday Morning thing...nice piece. Yeah, short, but nice. I do not want to miss Charlie Rose though. Does anyone know when this is really going to be shown so I can set my recorder? The website says Guests: Joni Mitchell Appearances: None. What's up with that? Did she cancel? Inquiring minds want to know. Also, Bob and I have booked both the John Mayer and Friends and Cayamo Singer Songwriter Cruises through www.Sixthman.net , back to back in February. Is anyone else from the list going? If not, then WHY? It should be a blast plus: EmmyLou Harris, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt etc etc etc.! Contact me or the website for more info. I've already suggested they do a Herbie Hancock and Friends Cruise. Wouldn't that be interesting! I had a major dream last night. The kind where you wake up and go back to sleep and it picks up again. Started out as annoying unexpected visits from large numbers of extended family (which not surprisingly echoes my current real life) but it turned into a full blown Joni dream when "Jamie Box of Paints" (who I know only from his screen name on this list) shows up and clues me in it's all elaborate ploy to lure Joni to a pool party, which happens successfully.
