That has to be one of the most original sounds in a song. A few of my friends have heard the song when in my car and every time that part has come on, EVERYONE laughs. Great fun in a great song. -Monika "Everything comes and goes..." rian afriadi wrote: And Bob, when you sang it, did you do the chicken squawking? I always love the chicken squawking. This is one of the craziest moment in rock & roll era. Come on, picture this : A great singer, a great musician, on top of her fame, SQUAWKED like a CHICKEN on her record! This is crazy slash genius! About Ian Shaw, i haven't heard his cover, but i am sure he must rearrange the song so much. Talk To Me is always and will always be Joni's. Rian NP. Even with a pro like Marian playing behind me, I had a tough tough time getting the rhythm of it when we were performing at Jonifest. Marian will attest to this, when we were rehearsing it, she would tactfully suggest that we 'try it again'. But thanks to her, I feel like we pulled it off pretty well. The toughest part, vocally: "Even though it's covered with keyloids From the "slings and arrows of outrageous romance" I stole that from Willy the Shake You know - "Neither a borrower nor a lender be" Romeo Romeo talk to me" Wow, that's a mouthful and the syncopation is crazy; like I said before, Joni makes it look easy and it is NOT. Ian Shaw used a different arrangement for his recording of the song - probably a good idea. Bob NP: Dusty Springfield, "Just A Little Lovin'" Tired of spam? Yahoo! When a person doesn't want to help > himself/herself, there's little that can be done. > Hi Bob, In my experience, this is a common misunderstanding of alcoholics. Addiction by definition is loss of power to make decisions... decisions are made by one's physical craving. Everything in the life of an active alcoholic/addict is controlled by the disease. Lack of power is the dilemma of the alcoholic/addict. Alcoholics are powerless over alcohol which means the ability to control drinking is lost. Attempts to help one's self by one's own will power, one's "want" to get better, can keep an alcoholic sick. In a very real sense active alcoholics are beyond wanting the help themselves. Will power works against alcoholics. People might think if an alcoholic wants to bad enough, he or she can quit drinking. Not true. Alcoholics do recover if they quit fighting alcohol as well as everything else in life and do what other alcoholics suggest who have found a way to recover. Willing doesn't help; doing does. There is a big difference in accepting help and wanting to help one's self. A bottom where one no longer fights the disease and admits no matter how much they might want to help themself they can't usually has to be hit before an alcoholic can begin to get better. Fighting to sober up or to quit drinking doesn't help alcoholics like fighting might help a normal person to succeed in life. Fighting keeps alcoholics sick. Surrendering, to the disease to the point of admitting powerlessness does help. Unfortunately, some alcoholics are unable to take this first step toward recovery before they die of the disease like Monika's aunt did. Normal ways for surviving and getting better don't work for alcoholics which makes the disease hard to understand. Learning from others who have loved ones with the same deadly disease is something the family and friends of alcoholics can do to support an alcoholic toward recovery. Kate's at home putting together the final touches for the Joni tribute tomorrow night. Herbie Hancock is in town actually tomorrow as well, performing with Sonya Kitchell who will be singing several Joni songs. On the way up from L.A. we stopped in Malibu to get lunch at The Sunset at Zuma Beach. I called Paz to get Kate's number and we actually reached him in Thailand even though it was 5 in the morning there. He was drinking martinis when we spoke with him. They were to play for the crown prince of Thailand tomorrow and had to get pink shirts. The weather was beautiful in Malibu and the sunlight shimmering on the water. They were actually setting up for a wedding outside. Leslie came by and hung with us for a little while. There's a chance of rain tomorrow but so far the weather has been gorgeous.
