NJC ["Eric Taylor" Subject: Re: ...and winter is closing in... NJC Bob commented: >>I just got through running in shorts and short sleeves - thank you, global warming!<< I hope you're kidding, Bob! Here in Pittsburgh it was 80 degrees every day last March and the first week of October we had temperatures near 90. All the leaves are still on the trees and the first frost is over a month late. Too many people here actually think this is a good thing. It amazes me when, after the first day of rain in two months, people complain that it it raining! Will we be thanking global warming ten years from now when 90% of the world's population who live at sea level are running for the hills? The melting of glaciers and ice caps is happening faster than anyone predicted. Alaska is 5 degrees hotter now and the tundra is turning into slush. The trees there are falling over in what they call 'drunk forests.' Eskimos can no longer store their whale blubber in what used to be permafrost. Polar bears are drowning in the suddenly open waters of the arctic seas. James Lovelock points out that the last time earth's temperature rose 8 degrees sea levels rose 40 feet. Oh what a massive mess we're in!!! Moving to Saskatoon... But Joni has made three stunning videos from SHINE with the Alberta Ballet ~ If I Had A Heart, If, and Big Yellow Taxi 2007 ~ on The Fiddle And The Drum. The little girl in the dreamy dress steals the show!!! I've been watching this awesome interpretation of Joni's more obscure, profound compositions all day and I am completely BLOWN AWAY..... Passion Play and Slouching Toward Bethlehem particularly touch me. Also ADORE the Joni cameo in The Beat Of Black Wings as a black Killer Kyle! Charlie Mingus would still get really turned on by this....... And Big Yellow Taxi is simply PRICELESS. As a student of ballet and modern dance I can tell you that those dancers had the best time of their lives dancing to Joni's undulating syncopations. I only wish that Martha Graham had lived to see this. O how very lucky we are to have such a gorgeous genius in our messy midst transforming such ghastly ugliness into such breathtaking beauty! Never before and maybe never again will the world see an artist as talented as Joni Mitchell. I am just SO happy to be alive to witness her magic.
