I just can't begin to describe it all but there was Herbie, Wayne Shorter, Al Jarreau, Quincy Jones, Thelonius Monk, Jr., Terrence Blanchard, Roy Hargrove, George Benson, Chris Botti, George Duke, Nancy Wilson, Luis Conte, Vinnie Colaiuta, Hubert Laws, Patrice Rushen, Sting, Joni and more all jamming for 4 hours. My Gawd. Herbie is 73 years old and doesn't look or act a day over 35. Bu tthe biggest shock was JONI. Something has happened to totally rejuvenate her. She was absolutely radiant and gorgeous and seriously looked like she has lost 25 years in age overnight. We all said that this must be because she is creating again and in a good place. She was dressed in a very flatterting (no funky pleats and folds this time) long brown silk jersey kind of belted catsuit with a long flowing overskirt. Very slinky and she wore also tight sleek brown leather boots. When Herbie was about to receive his award he said that his closest friends were going to join him and out walked Wayne, Joni and Sting all hand and hand. Herbie then played for awhile. Then he introduced Joni with the most reverent praise. She came out and sang Tea Leaf Prophecy with the entire band. Then---you won't believe it---but she next sang Hana with all of them and it was nothing like on Shine. All who may not like the song too much mlyself included) would become an instant convert hearing it live with all these amazing greats backing her up. She seemed to be having the best time and was just belting it out and rocking and dancing. There is a new Joni in town, my friends. I think we felt like we were seeing Joni perform 30 years ago. It was just amazing. There were lots of good quips - my favorite was Quincy saying to Joni he remembered "Tommy Scott when was only 17 years old." I can't believe our good fortune to have experienced this particular night of music. Wow-wee! I was curious as to what she would perform. I know what you mean about her 'look', I picked up on it as well looking at the NYC art gallery pics. Glad that all of you were there to share the moment together. I like Hana just fine on the record but I'm sure that with the caliber of musicians she was working with it became a brand new song as opposed to accompanied by keyboard frills. Since one of my settings is for Tivo to record anything with Joni, I checked it to see if it would be recording that automatically. Well, it wasn't, BUT what did come up was that JONI WILL BE INTERVIEWED ON "THE TAVIS SMILEY SHOW" on SATURDAY, NOV. 10TH AT 12:00 AM!! (I think that would be Friday at midnight). Check your local listings. The program is 30 minutes. Seeing Joni on TV twice in one week is so exciting. Did anyone record the program with her on Sirius radio last week. I'd love to get to hear that too. I didn't check if it was archived there. I was sitting probably about 15 feet away from him. I wouldn't say he looks half of 73 up close, but... he sure as heck doesn't look 73. I'd put him in his 50s or well-preserved early 60s. I saw it in the theater at a screening several years ago but it would be nice to watch it again. The next time it is being aired is Wednesday, 6:00pm Eastern time. Obviously, this only applies to U.S. programming but you would think it is being aired in other countries as well. If you haven't seen it, it is well worth checking out. Kakki NP: Ledisi - Alright ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2007 01:47:34 +0100 (CET) From: Joseph Palis Subject: buying discs online via amazon.de - NJC Hi JoniListas, Sorry for this stupid question but I am wondering if any of you more knowledgeable about this or had experience, can you provide me with simple info/assistance. If I am buying an item from an international (non-US) amazon store, do I have to open a new account just for that site to purchase the product or will my existing one (in the US) do? The reason I asked is because I am dying to get the latest CD of this German singer and it is only available in amazon.de. Even if I don't read/speak German, I managed to follow the transactions up to a point because the iconographies are similar to the English-language one I am familiar with. But only up to a point (I think sehr gut means very good; angebote = used?; in den einkaufswagen = checkout? ). If anyone had experience with this or can direct me to some useful info, please email me off-list. I will be grateful.
