I couldn't get it to work, maybe they're still tinkering with it. Secondly, check out this Delta Blues-ish take on This Flight Tonight...it ain't Joni, and it ain't Nazareth. I think it's pretty killer. Maybe it derivates too much from the original for Randy's tastes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTAtaNKFOVY Bob NP: see above - --------------------------------- Building a website is a piece of cake. You know the one with the house... Hi Dave, Thanks for asking this question because it got me to listen to the song more deeply. What a great song! I love the analogy of the helicopter on the building and the dragon fly on the tomb. Harry... I think he represents the upper middle class, middle-aged male. Joni made a comment once that I can't quote, but it was something about how love is a trick nature plays on people. This song reminds me of that. It seems Harry at an early age made decisions based on his passion for his love, and as he got older and he and she changed not only in appearance but in temperament with what life entailed, the reality comes clear that all his effort in life boiled down to was so she could tell him what to do with his house and pay. Yet he is still able to be right back to the experience of being reeled in by her shine. This got me thinking of the practical and the colorful in life. Colorful flowers attract bees for a purpose. As I walked into work this morning through the parking deck, the cars looked different to me. Normally, I don't notice them as I walk through them. But today I saw their colors and shapes and their shine and thought how beautiful and valuable they are. And, then I saw them as very heavy pieces of metal that burn gasoline and carry people here and there. Two different feelings about cars in those few minutes... I've looked at cars from both sides now. Harry in my opinion is the guy who looks at his love from both sides now. His dream of how she used to be keeps him able to see both at the same time. Both sides is a common theme in Joni's songs. I'm seeing it in the new lyrics also. There is a humbleness in her balance of both. It is like what do we really know when all we recall about anything is really just an illusion anyway? Perhaps because it was a choice she clearly walked away from with Graham, fearing that it might kill her creativity or career (if memory serves it was her grandmother's life that made her decide against becoming a wife). And all those lyrics about paper wives & kids made me think of her earlier song My Old Man where she sings, we don't need a piece of paper from the city hall. LOL! Some of the newer people here may not understand this reference, so I'll just offer up this: Joni's mother (R.I.P., Myrtle Anderson) once said to her: "Who do you think you are, Kitty Wells?" It's a bit of a joke here. (Right, SoB? Darn right!) I hope you can follow the Jonidiomatic that goes on in my head -- today is a very special day for me. The years spin by and now the boy is 29. It's the anniversary of my first son's birth...that first born son, that special one. I can't be with him physically today (he's in the Land of the Tolls, Chicago, R.I.P., Jack) but I've been thinking of him every minute. So if anyone wants to sent up a prayer for him, that would be cool. (Muller, I can count on you for that, and you know I'll try to be there for you when Nate turns 21 in October and you have your first legal beer with him!) And to pick up a thread from a few days (weeks?) ago, Chris was born in one of the first home-like birthing rooms in the U.S.....in Manchester CT (Ashara's old hometown), where they treated new Lamaze-trained mothers like movie queens, with a lobster dinner and champagne after the birth. (TIC! lobster pots and sunshine) (drinking sweet champagne) Death and birth and death and birth....I have "survivor's guilt" thinking about Mack's friend Rosalie, and Cindy Sheehan. Still on birthdays: Mr. Bob Muller, Sr., sent me the sweetest email! I have to request his permission to share it with you. All I can say is that the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree...it's all too beautiful. Now on Katrina: Paz, I can't even begin to tell you how all this breaks my heart on a daily basis. "If I had a heart....." Bless you for your hopefulness and for all that you do. Let me know how I can help. (*Don't* get me going on this administration...I'll be up all night in the studio..."heck of a job, Brownie!") Laura: In addition to HC, Willie Nelson is supposed to be on Letterman tonight, too. He has been a great advocate for peace. Dave: It's so awesome that you keep Joni's music alive. I can just picture all these people mouthing Joni's lyrics. Bravo, bravo! Keep the good feelings alive! Jeannie: My prayers are with your priest friend, and you. I have a friend whom I have visited weekly for the past 7 years. She will be 100 on December 15th and I will be so sad when she passes on. For everything -- and everyone -- there is a season, but it's still hard. Big hug to you. Thank you for this safe place to share, and for taking me as I am. I told you when I met you I was crazy! Love & peaceful blessings to you all, Patti P. _________________________________________________________________ See what youre getting intobefore you go there http://newlivehotmail.com/?ocid=TXT_TAGHM_migration_HM_viral_preview_0507 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Aug 2007 22:39:18 -0700 From: "Kate Bennett" Subject: Re: Harry and Joni popularity Maybe someone has already mentioned this but to me it seems like Harry is the same guy who she is writing about in The Arrangement.
