Thank you so much for the report. I really wanted to be there and your report gave my imagination some fuel. Thank you also for the awesome sample of the show. What a great arrangement. The organ was excellent and so was the electric guitar. I'm excited that you are working on a recording of the night. I can't wait to hear the rest. I got a taste of S&L and am anxious to hear the final performance. I'm so glad I could contribute in some way and thank you for putting my name out there. There's a little piece of my in Fallbrook, California. I hope my artwork is in some way responsible for the great attendance on the night. I know how much work you put into this and how much you were looking forward to it so, I'm just over the moon that you had such a great attendance. I bet they were all grateful they came when they experienced the full force of your creativity. Joni really should have been there too. She would have had a ball. It was really your night but thanks to you, I feel like I participated. I'm still hoping to see some photographs of the poster up in the street. Keep me in mind when you put together the CD. Onward and upward to bigger things. Hugs all around. It's a Joni Mitchell song!!!!" to which he corrected: "No, it's Etta James" and I shot back: "Well, Joni covered it, so it still counts! Long live Joni Mitchell! Joni rules!" Covers count, don't they Muller? Oh, and speaking of you, Musik Meister, I was just perusing a website the other day (www.wagingpeace.org, I think it was) and saw a quote from a Robert Muller! I mean Bob Dylan did a DAMN VICTORIA'S SECRET commerical for God's sake! Sad. And I doubt she'll pull her deal with Starbucks. I do love Joni, but let's face it, she's human and not many people say no to money. I think they will give her a lot of exposure to the general public and the casual listener. And in metro Atlanta, there are several local coffeeshops that manage to coexist with their Starbucks neighbors quite easily. Do you know anything about your "employer"? These people have terrible labor history and expropriate the little guy who happens to stand in the way of building their coffee houses. From a warrior of the 60s, I wish to express my genuine disappointment about someone I once admired who now has seen fit to run with the enemy of humanity. Sheer betrayal. - --- Please note Starbucks' support for the US military, providing of free coffee to troops etc. There is also a branch of Starbucks at Guantanamo Bay, where hundreds of detainees have been held without trial for years, and tortured to boot. One is a resident from my town in the UK. He is not a terrorist nor enemy combatant as the US authorities claim. If Joni Mitchell knows of Starbuck's affiliations, then she should be ashamed of being associated with the coffee chain. If she doesn't then her withdrawal of cooperation with Starbucks would be a step forward towards Guantanamo's closure and the end of uncritical support for the US war machine. What happened to the ideals of the Sixties? They put up a parking lot, apparently. ________________________________________________________________________ AOL now offers free email to everyone. And I could be wrong, but she may end up selling a lot more this way than she would if she went with a traditional record label. Her CD will be in the face of gazillions of coffee zombies on their way in and out of the Starbucks shop (where I can't remember the high-falutin' names they give their sizes, so, in the unlikely event I stoop to buy a seriously overpriced one at Bucks, I usually say, "Just give me the biggest honkin' cup of the darkest blend you've got - and make it snappy!") These musicians still had deals with HUGE record companies that were about the $$ just as much as the creation itself. Slowly but surely the $$ became more important to the business. But anyone that says money isn't important is only fooling themselves. Sometimes, as bad as it may sound, you do things simply for the money. However, I don't think that's the case with Joni here. I'm sure it's not all about the money but I'd suspect that she wants some kind of success with her album. George Harrison, after having an album not do so well in the 70's, once said, "what's the point of making an album if no one's going to listen to it?" (that is not word for word but that's the point of it). She already stated she would not work with a direct record company again. And Joni releasing an album on an indie label? Come on now. She's not some new up and comer looking to break in but still trying to be "cool." That's not plausible. I don't see anything negative in this. Do I go to Starbucks? Nah. I can't afford them and I'd take a cup of tea at home over a cup of an iced mocha latte frappucino something or another anyday. That's no concern of mine though. The good thing here is Joni will certainly get more exposure and promotion which is essential nowadays. Some people who may not be all that informed on everything Joni does (such as releasing a new album) might just come across it and purchase it on a whim. Starbucks will most likely treat Joni very good. What is wrong with that? Paul M is not complaining. I suppose no matter what anybody does, there will always be somebody else bitching about it. I think there are those individuals who just need something to complain about and will go out of their way to find something to whine about. I mean, Starbucks the devil? Even if you hate big corporations and chains (If you hate them so much, why don't you just avoid them all together? We'll see how long that lasts...) they are certainly far from the worst problem in this country or in the world in general. This is Capitalism people. Money makes the world turn in the eyes of Capitalism. Any other way will not do (I myself am more of a fan of Socialism but realize that will NEVER happen in America). I'd also tell anybody bitching about Joni signing on with Starbucks to go bitch about something more harmful. Try the war. - -Monika, excited about the album and all for the cd deal! ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jul 2007 21:23:51 EDT From: Motitan@aol.com Subject: Re: Stephen Stills on Leno tonight njc Thanks for letting me know!
