You're alive! I'm so relieved! I was so worried about you. (I worry sometimes.) Alive, alive, I want to get up and jive... and if I wreck my stockings in some jukebox dive, you can knit me some new ones, right? Long silk ones, on the bedposts of refinement (yeah, my JMOCD has worsened - -- still crazy, after all these years on the JMDL!) Great story, and welcome back! Lots of love, Patti P. Thought you lot might like this sent to me from a knitting friend; Hi Colin, It's your golden aged Canadian friend here again. Your comment on Joni Mitchell prompted me to bore you with a "once upon a time" tale from my childhood. When I was a little girl growing up in Saskatchewan Joni Mitchell was in my Brownie pack. She was Joan (Joany) Anderson then, and I remember she was very talented artistically. I don't remember her singing, or composing, but she drew and painted far beyond her years. I remember that she was ill, and spent months in bed one year (? perhaps rheumatic fever?), the whole Brownie pack went and sang Christmas Carols outside her bedroom window. And that's about as close as I ever came to fame and fortune!!! We grew up, went separate ways, and I never saw her again. As a young woman, with wee children, my mom and I had tea with Mrs. Anderson a few times before Mom moved to Victoria, B.C. I've always liked Joni's music, but I'm ashamed to say I do not own any of her recordings. I have very little in my collection that was written after 1850. :-) - - -- bw colin www.colinknits.blogspot.com/ www.designyourownsweater.blogspot.com www.tantra-apso.com _________________________________________________________________ http://liveearth.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Jul 2007 23:55:50 -0400 From: Deb Messling Subject: Re: Anecdote Colin, When I saw your name in my Joni folder I did a little dance! It's so nice to hear from you, and what a wonderful anecdote indeed! Joni has said she was in hospital over Christmas, so your friend's memory makes sense. I heartily second Kate's suggestion that everyone with any interest in the future of our political system watch this show. You can view the full video or read the transcript at the website. Through interviews with two men, one who worked on the Clinton impeachment, the show makes a very persuasive case for impeachment. Bush and Cheney have overstepped the bounds of the executive branch and Congress, which should keep the executive branch in check, has not been doing its job for the last six years (I'd say longer). It's not about allowing them to continue and hoping that they don't wreak any more havoc than they have already. Impeachment is not about retribution -- unless they are brought to task for their illegal activities and the executive branch is brought back into line, a dangerous precedent will have been set. The next President will have unprecedented powers. I have heard Sandra Day O'Connor make similar remarks about the judiciary and checks and balances that the forefathers wrote into the Constitution. I'm sorry to say that the average American knows little to nothing about the actual duties of each branch and how they relate. The show also discussed the fourth estate, the media, and the pathetic job they've done in educating people. At the risk of sounding like a revolutionary, every person in America should see this show. Paul In MD Kate Bennett wrote: Bill Moyers is so broadly informed & deeply intelligent. I enjoyed the speech you sent Vince. I loved the series, long ago, where he interviewed Joseph Campbell (actually it was less of an interview, more like to very well versed men having a brilliant discussion). I hope you & others will take time to view the broadcast I sent. He interviews two brilliant men & actually gives voice (as devils advocate I suppose) against impeachment. It is not a partisan discussion, but a deeply knowledgeable one about our constitution. Both the legislative branch & the fourth estate are taken to task for not doing their jobs. It isn't just about ranting against the executive branch. - --------------------------------- Shape Yahoo! in your own image. For one, we got to hear Jonifest artist Gregg Cagno, and I'm so proud to know that such a talented guy is from my home town! (I didn't try to say hi to him because I am shy). Secondly, Ellis Paul was the headliner, and he did a song called Jukebox on My Grave which referenced Joni as one of the selections available on the aforementioned jukebox. I was hoping for a scoop on this song, but it's already included on jonimitchell.com in the section that lists songs that mention Joni. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Deb Messling -^..^- dlmessling@rcn.com http://www.sensibleshoes.vox.com - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2007 04:06:18 +0000 From: "Patti Parlette" Subject: NJC Farm Aid!!
