Well, I'm sitting here 'neath the night rain clouds covering the moon and the stars wondering about what you said. I know exactly where you're coming from, but not with the song, JOTMS. For me, the song is lovely and it gets powerful {yet calm and flowing} towards the last 1/3 of the song. It conjures wonderful images of all sorts in my musical mind, down in old, cold German gardens. I love that song. It's one my favorite, first of all, because it's so beautiful and secondly, because I see Beethoven carrying so many of his crosses, as he shakes his fist at fame, just the way he did right up to his last breath, when at the shake of thunder, he shook his fist and lifted it upwards with the same electricity as lightening does when it shoots downwards. I'm sure Joni relates, as well as many of you musicians and poets who really ponder fortune and fame when it takes on a slave. jeannie NP: Meet Me In The Indian Summer (and we'll go walking to eternity) ~Van Morrison~ Hank Williams You been all over that juke-box, mister, all this afternoon Playing Hank Williams records for a dime Well, I may be just a cat for you, but I know that heartbreak tune And I'm proud to say that Hank Williams was a real good friend of mine I never asked for money or his autograph, you see 'Cause I don't need too much to get along I just liked to sit there with him and keep him company Who says cats can't understand a good country song? You think you know that man inside your little radio All the trials and heartbreakes he's been through To you he's just a country star, to me he's just a friend No, you don't know Hank Williams like I do Some nights we'll go out riding in his grat big car With the little radio that's built right in I'd sit up front there with him and his old guitar And listen while the DJ played "Your Cheatin' Heart" again "Well, Buddy, you know there's something mighty strange about trying to live a life of fame, you see It's supposed to make me happy, all it does is worry me Nobody else seems to understand the things that I go through Only time I feel peaceful is when I ride with you" You've heard it on the radio, Hank has passed away In the back seat of that Cadillac, it's true To you he's just a legend now, to me he's still a friend No, you don't know Hank Williams like I do ~Ry Cooder~ jean Motitan@aol.com wrote: The other day I was listening to FTR and decided to give this song another listen (also listened to it again eariler today). I haven't listened to this particular track since the first few days of having the album. I decided I didn't like the song at that time. But as it happens to be, every now and again I give songs I don't like by artists I like another chance. Often more than once. I'd say 70% of the time it doesn't work. You give it another listen and you still don't catch the magic. You continue on with your day. Then there's that 30% of the time where you "find" something you didn't get before. Listening to this track now, I can't figure out why it didn't strike me immediately. I can't understand what I didn't like about it then. The piano is very pretty all throughout and Joni is really stretching her "arrangement" skills. My favorite part of the song is the vocal melody with these lyrics: "Or take a walk A park A bridge A tree A river Revoked but not yet cancelled The gift goes on" I just love how she sings this part and the woven yet hasty melody (vocally) that goes with it. What do you make of the song? Are there some songs you didn't like from the start and then realized what you missed? - -Monika NP: Train In Vain- The Clash ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. - --------------------------------- Boardwalk for $500?
