Barnaby and I have painstakingly transcribed both pieces. DTY is already up in pdf form at the jmdl.com guitar tabs (!) database and I sent Les Irvin the Blue chart while he was away in Canada recently. He is about to put it up there when he gets back. I understand the legal issues regarding publication you are asking but wanted to let you know that some of us in the trenches have been working on these transcriptions. If you get clearance for such an undertaking I'd highly recommend Barnaby to do the transcriptions as he is meticulous and highly respectful of Joni's music. Nothing exciting. I went to hear that Maiken Ingvordsen, Jazz singer and pianist, at the local library this morning, 11AM, in a concert that is part of the Copenhagen Jazz festival. She was part of a Joni Mitchell tribute concert some years ago, with a very good sax player, Hans Ulrik. I left after the first set, because I was a bit bored and not sure they'd play any other Joni songs that Cherokee Louise which they had already performed. I've got to say, she is gifted, but somehow... Imagine Joni as a coyote and Maiken as a golden retriever. That's not a bad thing to say is it?! In any case, after Cherokee L she declared that she loves Joni - 'so do I!' shouted the bass player - and me too! shouted the saxophonist - and ME! said the drummer. I managed to keep quiet... :-)... The hope is winning today! Last night I went down to Akron, OH to see a CSNY tribute band (named "Ohio"). They were fantastic to say the least! They had six members in the band--one playing Crosby (who really looked like him), one loosely playing Stills (loosely because the Crosby one did 75% of the solos/leads), a Nash one, a guy on drums, bass, and keyboard. No Neil one although they did perform some Neil penned songs--Ohio, Cinnamon Girl, Southern Man. They were real tight and had a lot of energy. I went with my sister (who I also dragged along to see the real CSNY last summer) who commented that this tribute band seemed like they liked each other a lot more than the real band, heh. Anyhow, there were two Joni mentions in their set. Right before, "Our House," one of the members mentioned that Graham Nash wrote this song for his "friend" in Laurel Canyon. Later the band performed, "Woodstock" and said, "Joni Mitchell wrote this song." They rocked it hard man! Now more points for the hope I've witnessed 22 years........I just landed my first radio job! Only took me 42 years to do so but so be it! It's only part time/fill in (very few hours) but the experience is what really counts. Once you're "in" you are "one of them" and the only way to go is up. They promote within always. That is the good thing about radio. It was well established that Plame had not been covert for many years and she was well known in Washington social and political circles as having worked for the CIA. There was no crime in saying that she worked there at the time of the original news article by Novak. Then it was found that Novak obtained his information from Armitage, not Libby or Rove or Cheney. But certain groups cannot accept the reality. Those groups wanted it to be related to Cheney and Rove, thinking that finally they could get them, as they often said, "frog marched" into prison. It didn't work out according to their plan and that it why there is now the misplaced outrage. It can be argued that once it was eetablished that there was no crime and the identity of the person who spoke about her was Armitage, the prosecution should have ended. It can also be argued that when Fitgerald came up with nothing after a multi-million dollar investiagtion, that he had to provide a "scalp" to justify the expenditure. I certainly do believe in prosecuting perjury and obstruction of justice, but there are questions as to whether Libby was guilty of those crimes or whether he just had a diffferent or faulty recollection of his conversations with a journalist. He has a right to appeal just like everyone else. He has paid the $250,000 fine, is on probation and his reputation has been tarnished very publically. Should he also serve a couple of years in prison before a court of appeal can review his case? How many other persons convicted of perjury in a case where it was found there was no crime have similarly served such a sentence? No fair-minded person should have the desire for justice to be equated with political show trials. Happy 67th birthday, Ringo! Who on Earth d'you think you are? A super Starr? Well, right you are! I have been somewhat absent from the discussions as I pack and prepare for the big day but I hope to be back in touch very soon. I am looking forward to this move immensely and know I will be happy in the Pacific North West. Warmly, Cassy P.S. I am working very hard to retain my email address but it may not be possible. Writing on the internet, as opposed to talking in person, is very limited and easily miscontrued. You don't get a person's tone of voice or facial expression. Forget what you heard about "Moulin Rouge" reinventing the movie musical. This earnest, beautiful film does that and so much more. If you have an art house cinema near you, insist that they get a print and if it is currently showing please run to catch it. You will not be disappointed. The songs by Glen Hansard and Marketa Inglova are glorious and performed with such heart that I know the people who participate on this list will appreciate them. If you've seen it, let me know what you think. This is not so much a film about musicians but about the musician in everyone. I was wanting to go see "Lez Zeppelin" (an all-girl Zep cover band) 2 weeks ago but couldn't scare up anyone to tag along and didn't feel like going alone. - -------------------------------- I've heard of that all-girl Zeppelin cover band. They do pretty well I guess. It'd be interesting to see, wouldn't it? Anyway, tribute bands are a lot of fun. It's particularly necessary to getting the closest experience to the original act, if they no longer exist. I've seen some Beatles tribute bands, a John Lennon tribute, a George Harrison tribute, and a Pink Floyd one before this. All of those original artists are unfortunately out of the question. All the members (sans Syd) of Floyd may be alive and well but we'd see hell freeze over before they got back together for a full length tour or album. - -Monika ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jul 2007 00:01:38 EDT From: Motitan@aol.com Subject: NJC Question, question, question! As I mentioned in a previous post, I saw a CSNY tribute band perform. Well I knew every word to every song except one song which I had never heard before. I'm thinking it must be a Crosby solo tune or a Crosby/Nash tune. Does anyone know what the name of this is and what is it from? The chorus goes: "Lonely days, lonely nights....and so on" That is all I can recall. I do believe it was a love song and the guy playing Crosby sang the lead. So, some help please? - -Monika ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Jul 2007 21:33:26 -0700 From: "Kate Bennett" Subject: RE: Fw: Politics NJC HI Jeannie There is a lot of different opinions on how much damage was done by outing Plame. I guess you have to form your own opinion on that. All accounts I've read note that she was covert at the time. The author of those remarks (RL) is Rush Limbaugh. It pains me to have to invoke his name so I like to just use the initials. :~} ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Jul 2007 01:13:44 -0400 From: "Bree Mcdonough" Subject: RE: NJC Live Earth? I caught some here and there. I loved Roger Waters....now those are songs!! I kept it mostly on mute..I can't stand the preaching. I loved the Police...but was disappointed when Sting called Kenya West on stage. He didn't add a thing to Message In A Bottle...and i think probably detracted from it. The whole thing reminded me of a bar band when a drunk hops up on stage and ruins the moment. Kenya can't sing...and was out of place. >From: Motitan@aol.com >Reply-To: Motitan@aol.com >To: joni@smoe.org >Subject: NJC Live Earth? >Date: Sat, 7 Jul 2007 23:22:06 EDT > >Anyone see any of Live Earth today? The lovable little fuzz ball ..as he refers to himself...primarily a conservative who happens to be one of the funniest people I have ever heard on the radio. He is a great entertainer....his three hours on the air just fly by. He exposes liberals like none other. And most importantly....he is very interesting to listen to. I have been listening to him since the early nineties....and I have read his books. I found him when Clinton was running...and I thought...this guy thinks like I do. Now he does use parody...exaggeration... and a whole lot of other things to make a point...so what you copied here ..attributable to Rush...were most assuredly taken out of context. He can get fiery. His detractors try to pin a lot on him...he's a homophobe.....misogynist.. he is anti this and anti that...just not true. I wouldn't listen for a minute if there was a even a hint of any prejudices coming from him. Does he have a bias...yes...against liberals? A lot of people end up liking him once they give a listen. I'm sure not all his twenty million listeners weekly are all conservative. Check out his website....read his philosophies......he is all about every American reaching his or her full potential..... but how??....what works ....and what hasn't... >Here are some choice tidbits from the brilliant mind of RL- > >"Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access >to >the mainstream of society." > >"Let the unskilled jobs, let the kinds of jobs that take absolutely no >knowledge whatsoever to do - let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that >work." _________________________________________________________________ http://newlivehotmail.com ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2007 #259 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe -------
