I yelled at the TV a few times when that happened, and gave my daughter a bit of an education too. My daughter loves the song, gets a kick out of it, but thought Feist wrote it. (What the heck is a See-line/C-line/Sea lion woman? Feist calls it "Sealion.") I have to say at this point, it is quite possibly the best album they have ever put out. Though I've enjoyed the last few releases, Counterparts, Test for Echo, Vapor Trails, this album blows them all out of the water. There is a heavy emotional side that really comes across this time and melodically, musically they are just brilliant. Much like a Joni Mitchell album, I have had to listen to it several times to really absorb it but now I can't stop playing it. When Neil Peart lost his wife and daugher both in the same year several years ago, they were on a hiatus for awhile and I think it took them, Neil especially, a long time to get back on the top of their game but they are definitely back now. There is an almost perfect balance of acoustic and electric textures, something that's been missing from their albums for awhile. Soundwise, I am reminded of Permanent Waves and Hemispheres but the songs have the fresh feel of new material and very good songwriting. The aspiring 20-year-old singer from Pittstown -- whose first stage performance was an a cappella rendition of "Over the Rainbow" during her third-grade talent show -- made it through multiple auditions for "Star Search" as a teenager, only to miss the final cut. She's twice auditioned to sing the national anthem for the Philadelphia Eagles, beating out hundreds of contestants both times to make it to the top 20. But she never got the chance to walk out to midfield. Caruso has endured numerous "American Idol" auditions, winning a coveted "Golden Ticket" to Hollywood to perform in front of Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell. But after singing a brief version of Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart," she was among the first six singers rejected by the judges during an episode that aired in February. Saturday, Caruso will appear on MTV's second incarnation of "Say What? Karaoke," dubbed "SWK 2.0." The hourlong premiere episode, which airs at noon, will show Caruso at work as a waitress and performing locally with The Caruso Family Band. She'll sing along to current hits such as Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" and the Black Eyed Peas' "My Humps," facing off against other contestants and repeatedly going before a panel of celebrity judges. Then, she'll win. "You can never give up. You always have to keep pushing yourself. And finally I succeeded," Caruso said of the show, which was taped last Thursday in MTV's studios in New York City's Times Square. "I'm never going to give up my dreams. I see myself as a singer slash entertainer. It's my goal, and I'm going to do it. I'm only 20, and I have my whole life ahead of me." Caruso said she stumbled across a bulletin announcing "SWK 2.0" while using the social networking Web site MySpace. She fired off an e-mail to the producer of the show, who set up auditions and then chose Caruso and a handful of other contestants from a pool of more than 100 hopefuls. "It was definitely awesome," Caruso said of the experience. "I still can't believe that I won. It's so surreal. All the contestants, we all became friends, and I have all their numbers now so we can talk." Caruso, who overcame a bout of strep throat just days before the taping, said she received a 50-inch flat-screen television. And, of course, a chunk of national airtime. Caruso's father, Mike, pointed to MTV's promotional blurb for "SWK 2.0," which states that scoring a song such as Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" could lead to a big break in the industry, "while getting stuck with something like MC Hammer's 'U Can't Touch This' likely means they'll spend the rest of their lives singing in the shower." Lucky thing she sang Clarkson's hit, said Caruso's father, who plays lead guitar in The Caruso Family Band and is a member of The Doughboys. "It's all about timing," Caruso said of her string of auditions, including a failed tryout for the first edition of "Say What? Karaoke" when she was 16. Caruso, who said her voice has greatly matured since then, expects to continue singing wherever and whenever she can. "It's a gift," she said. "And I'm going to use it." ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 May 2007 10:44:17 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: njc - --- LCStanley7@aol.com wrote: > Bob asked: > > > > how could > > Bobby Sherman turn all of these cute unsuspecting > American girls gay? If I ever need to reach him and he won't pick up his damned cellphone and/or reply to my voicemails (I hate that!), I find that if I "text him", he responds immediately. But between kids, well, I heard someone (a psychologist, I think) call it "textual intercourse." It can be used as a flirtation device. Text messaging is fun if you're in the court and spark/dizzy- dancing-way-you-feel phase of a relationship. You get an unexpected message (beep beep!) from out of the blue and your heart does little flips (TIC! I don't know why my heart flips. I only know it does. I wonder why I love you, baby. Tell me I'm wrong - I will be refreshed. For various reasons I'm up way late and so watched Letterman and now Conan O. So I was geeked to hear Elvis Costello would be on Letterman! so cool! that the ONE time I watch, someone soooooooooooooooo cool and vital (as Elvis C) would be on! woooooo hooooooooooooooo! and so what does he do? some new and possibly shallow sh_t I don't want to hear?? no!!!!! 4 piece band and they do "Welcome to the Working Week" segueing into (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) "I Don't Want To go to Chelsea"! whoa!!!!!!!!!! IDWTGTC is one of my all time faves!!!!! But I'm feeling like I felt watching Melinda Doolittle doing "Nutbush"....my urge is c'mon man, crank it!!!!!!!!! toin' it up!!!!!!!! be baddddd! - but no.... "Chelsea" was kinda really limp....... I just feel like desperation has been such a big part of some of the best records - and its missing now. Or? not sure what to call the over the top energy that's on some earlier rock and roll? Elvis and his band "the Imposters" did not really nail "Chelsea" imho. But I am happy they even DID it!!!!!!!!!!! EC has such an el-hugeo discography by now. Makes me wonder what he's up to w/that band. So now I watrch Conan O. and the band is *Max Weinberg* ?? heh?????? E street drummer??/ lol, pretty cool sorry folks I go to sleep so early normally.... this all tickles me. Em ps: last instance of "11" I felt was Stadium Arcadium.... free energy! An interesting collection as usual. My favourite of this bunch is the Spin Doctors take on Woodstock. Obviously a cover of CSN's version but great nonetheless. I've always like the Spin Doctors' passion for their style of music. They are always enthusiastic. I look forward to the next volume.
