It was a highlight of our collective lives and about 10 of us were invited to meet her after the taping the first night. It was so magical. There were tons of her paintings hanging on every wall inside and outside the stage area. That alone blew me away. It is diificult for me to objectively assess the DVD having been there live -I think any of us who were there would be biased. But why decide between two or three DVDs? Get them all! ;-) My top 5 Jonis to take away: For The Roses Song to a Seagull Blue Don Juan's Reckless Daughter Travelogue Kakki Rosie wrote: I love PWWAM, just knowing that the late Wally Breeze(creator of the Joni Mitchell.com site), Jim Johansen(who can be seen sitting behind Joni) as well as many of the other JMDLers were invited to fill in the audience. If I am not mistaken, Kakki and Leslie Mixon were there, am I right Kakki? Oh boy, I wish I had my computer back then. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2007 09:28:37 EDT From: RoseMJoy@aol.com Subject: Nor'easter & The River njc The Raritan River is in my backyard....They've already evacuated the back 4 bldgs of my apt. complex, most likely we'll be next as she crests. My favs (today): Guitar: Intro/Cotton Avenue, For The Roses, Turbulent Indigo, Hejira, Refuge of the Roads Piano: Rainy Night House, Let The Wind Carry Me, Two Grey Rooms, Judgement of the Moon and Stars (Ludwig's Tune), Blue, Court and Spark. The orchestral ones may not be entirely Joni, but my favorite is the orchestral version of "Love" from Travelogue. It is simply gorgeous. "Cherokee Louise" and "Woodstock" from the same record follow closely. "Refuge of the Roads" translated brilliantlly to harp and strings. The music school is very small, we all know each other, and it is incredibly upsetting to me that someone would do something like that. She is a very sweet girl, only 20, and plays classical piano brilliantly. Just last week, she performed the Pathetique Sonata at her recital among other pieces. She is originally from Romania but has been in the States for 11 years and speaks perfect English. Her name is Mihaela. Anyhow, I was thinking I would really like to do something for her as she is already dealing with a lot this semester so I thought perhaps I would try to raise and replace the money that was taken from her. If you would like to and are able to contribute, please send a contribution via paypal to waytoblue@comcast.net or a check/money order to Victor Johnson p.o. 43 Decatur, GA 30031 Thanks so much! I am going to see what I can come up with then present it to her at the end of the week. best, Victor ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2007 14:10:48 -0500 From: "Happy The Man" Subject: Re: My Top 5 Every album is a journey in itself, or at least part of the journey. Some mean more then others and as C&S is now going to remind me of the drive up to Full Moon with Patrick and Mike P., that in itself will bring new meaning to that body of work. And so thus not being a critic and glad not to be one here is my top 5. 1) Night Ride Home - it was a powerful time in my life and in my marriage and the only album my ex wife would listen to. 2) Hissing - summers crusing up PCH in my VW squareback with album competing for space with Katy Lied, Late for the Sky & Stampede. 3) Heija - Actually driving across the burning desert and seeing the vapor trails of jets around Edwards AFB. Never sounded better then after three days at altitude and driving down from the mountians. 4) C & S - This was a ganja album.........I forgot what I was going to say. 5) Turbulent Indigo - I was fed up with religous people and Magdalene Laundries just fueled my anger but gave me some core values to live by.....bringing light into a room instead of leeching it out. Oh if the house starts sinking, hell I'd get the cat. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mark-Leon Thorne" To: "JMDL" Sent: Sunday, April 15, 2007 7:56 AM Subject: My Top 5 > Hadn't really thought about this. Lots of songs remind me of girls that I dated (or never dated but had a crush on - a much longer list, sadly), and even though the songs may not be that great they have that significance. I remember when I was in college, we used to play cards all night and listen to the same 5-6 records over & over. They will always be special to me for that reason. [chorus] He used to say soulshine, Its better than sunshine, Its better than moonshine, Damn sure better than rain. Hey now people dont mind, We all get this way sometime, Got to let your soul shine, shine till the break of day. I grew up thinkin that I had it made, Gonna make it on my own. Life can take the strongest man, Make him feel so alone. Now and then I feel a cold wind, Blowin through my achin bones, I think back to what my daddy said, He said boy, in the darkness before the dawn: [chorus] Let your soul shine, Its better than sunshine, Its better than moonshine, Damn sure better than rain. Yeah now people dont mind, We all get this way sometimes, Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day. Sometimes a man can feel this emptiness, Like a woman has robbed him of his very soul. A woman too, God knows, she can feel like this. And when your world seems cold, you got to let your spirit take control. [chorus] Let your soul shine, Its better than sunshine, Its better than moonshine, Damn sure better than rain. Lord now people dont mind, We all get this way sometimes, Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day. Oh, its better than sunshine, Its better than moonshine, Damn sure better than rain.
