Katherine ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Mar 2007 15:33:58 -0800 (PST) From: Bob Muller Subject: Re: You are on a deserted island...NJC yet Talk about a musical Sophie's Choice! 1. Hejira - because listening to it is like watching a favorite film or reading a favorite novel again & again. I never tire of it and it always brings new things to the table. 2. Loggins & Messina - Mother Lode: I love the variety of music and the musicianship on this album. Some great songs to sing along to, or just mellow back with. 3. Led Zeppelin - Houses Of The Holy: Because I've got to rock, and this one rocks but also has some incredible melodies and again a variety of musical styles. And I don't need a lifetime supply of strings, the ones on my air guitar never break. 4. War Live: Because it's soul & funk with attitude - great to sing and move to. It always sounds good to me. By the same token, I could substitute Songs In The Key Of Life for this one. 5. The Red House Painters - Ocean Beach: It's a great moody record, and I imagine would be great to listen to on an island. Hopefully all those foxy LOST ladies could keep me occupied when I want to do something other than listen to music. Do we have any Canadians set up to record it (on dvd maybe)? I'm set up to copy and burn dvd+R's here in south jersey usa. All I need is a non-protected dvd or a vhs tape to copy. Almost all albums have "filler". With quite a few exceptions, of course. So I'd just have to pick my 5 artists, from whose work I'd burn my own mix. Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer Dylan Baez CCR Joni Mitchell this one album called Great Tomatoes or some such that I got off eMusic, has great blues/early rock mix Em - --- Motitan@aol.com wrote: > Better yet, you are stranded on the LOST island. That leaves advances in converting analog to digital. Sure, that's always improving but I don't have a $40,000, 3-box CD player. If we were getting some exotic video like the 'pink dress concert' or the BBC2 programme or the first Carnegie Hall show, I would be onboard. Since we aren't, I'm not. But I never got a great pressing of BLUE on record. The promos and Japanese pressings were just too rich for my blood. A 180 gram LP with a super-clean mastering job for $25 sounds very cool to me. I'll have a record this time. Jim L. Thing is (and I'm assuming I'm stuck on this island for all of forever) I would only play one album a year so they would be entirely fresh when I heard them. And I would rather have a guitar, but would end up making one eventually. In no particular order: Bringing On the Weather - Jacko Pierce Greetings From L.A. - Tim Buckley Words & Music - John Mellencamp The Very Best - Marvin Gaye Hejira - Joni If it were possible to take more I'd add: Modernday Folklore - Ian Moore Grace - Jeff Buckley Tiger Lily - Natalie Merchant So - Peter Gabriel Deep Forest - Deep Forest Sweet Dreams the Anthology - Roy Buchanan Citizen - Steely Dan Fear - Toad the Wet Sprocket Those Southern Knights - The Crusaders Live at Luther College - Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds Bach's Violin Concertos - Salvattore Accardo Death and the Transfiguration - Richard Strauss SRV - Stevie Ray Vaughan Ask me again tomorrow, who knows what I'd pick then? Why those albums? -Monika ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Mar 2007 02:58:13 EST From: Motitan@aol.com Subject: Re: You are on a deserted island...NJC yet Now to answer my own question which I usually don't do but I figure it's 3 o'clock in the morning...I just got home and I have nothing better to do. First off, I'd make sure Sawyer didn't stray too far and I would push Kate into the water to go get Jack. Finders keepers. As far as albums go......here are some artists I'd take along: 1. The Beatles: Perhaps Rubber Soul or the White Album or A Hard Day's Night (Yes I am cheating on my own question) 2. The Who: Who's Next or Live At Leeds or The Who By Numbers 3. Pink Floyd: Animals or the Wall 4. Neil Young: Tonight's The Night or Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere or Zuma 5. CSN/Y: Crosby, Stills, & Nash the debut or Deja Vu or 4 Way Street 6. George Harrison: All Things Must Pass 7. Joni Mitchell: Oh Lord...I don't even know what my favorite album by her is......I love it all so much really...I used to know but since I've been getting more I don't know.....something by her is all I know! 8. Cream: Something live man 9. A compilation of some early rock-n-roll: Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, all that jazz! 10. Something blues: Muddy Waters or Buddy Guy.....maybe SRV....something good And yes, that is more than 5. Ah well. I make the rules, I break the rules. - -Monika
