If you love STAS, you owe it to yourself to pick up the HDCD version. It is like hearing it for the first time, like a blanket is lifted from the sound. C&S is the other release that showed the most change between the first pressings and the HDCD remasters. There is a little HDCD logo on the back cover, and the disc. You don't need a HDCD player to hear the difference (I don't have one). I would think that most of the titles in circulation now are the remasters, though there still may be some of the old ones sitting on the shelves of some stores. I listened to David's DJRD last night, compared to the original CD, it has more clarity in the top end. I don't have the HDCD version of that one, so can't compare it to that. I'm on the same page as you with regard to that. But let's please agree to include the NJC tag in the subject line of posts that aren't conversations ABOUT Joni. My point here is I really enjoyed all the performances and in all honesty think they should all be released in their entirety! But my bigger point is I keep having the performance of "Blue" in my head. You know, the one where Joni's wearing a dress that almost looks like a nightgown. I believe, if I remember correctly, it was from 1970. Her hair also had a wave to it. It wasn't straight as a stick which it often is. Anyway, I thought it was a very lovely performance, which is nothing new, but for some reason it really sticks in my head. Just the image of her in front of the piano sitting there. I guess in a way she looked very classy, not that she ever looks trashy or anything, hahaha. Perhaps other worldy? I don't want to raise her up on some pedestal but I don't know why but that clip really got me man. I think we were so blessed to have such sweet fathers. Even all my friends and his friends still talk about my dad and say there was no one like him. We are very lucky. I know it is still hard but you must know by now that he is still with you all the time - just in another space. My dad loved Joni, too, even though he was a couple of generations removed. I was thinking about Mack's post about her making him cry and remember taking my parents to her art exhibit here after the initial opening night and both of them were overcome by emotion and got all teary when they viewed her paintings. They could hear the music and feel the emotion in what the canvases revealed. In fact, it's the only thing about the entire show that didn't impress me at all. She was mumbling and didn't seem to know the words. And I could be mistaken, but she sounded off-key in parts. I don't know enough about Chaka Khan, but I wasn't impressed by her performance. Fortunately Herbie Hancock's piano made up for it.
