A guy called me yesterday, very polite, and said that she said that she was too busy working on her "new music." Well, OKAY. ;-) But seriously, if she is on a roll, she should go with it. Kakki I'm wondering if Joni may be attending Michael Brecker's funeral? Perhaps that is why the gallery party was cancelled? Best regards, Gary Z. Well I've been thinking about learning a Joni song to cover sometimes when I play live. My next actual gig (not just open mic nights which I play here and there and which I'm playing at one this Thursday) is Valentine's Day and I think I may want to play a Joni song there. I don't do too many covers live (a couple Neil Young songs, and am thinking about a George Harrison song) so they have to be special! Anyway, I've been giving this some deep thought because I'd like to do a decent job on the song. I've been listening for a song that I could sing ok and do some justice I suppose. I don't have a 4 octave range. I'm a very, very new singer (only played lead guitar and wrote songs in bands up until this past spring when I started playing solo) and I'm still working on bettering myself in that aspect, singing. Anyway, I want to do a more obscure song and something I could sing ok so what do you think about covering Night In The City? I really like the guitar rhythm in the song and I find myself singing, "night in the city looks pretty to me, night in the city looks fine" at random. Plus it sounds a little rock-n-roll to me (the rhythm and bass and all) which appeals all the more. - -Monika ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2007 22:03:08 EST From: Merk54@aol.com Subject: Re: Nine word Joni lyric challenge Kate - that is a great one - and it seems so obvious now. The good folks at CBC have assembed their best Joni audio and video interviews and newsclips spanning over four decades. It's quite amazing to see these all assembled in one place; some are up to 15 minutes in length. Joni's vision of her music and writing seems to have remained quite constant over the years. Her displays of self-awareness are uncanny and inspiring to me. Fascinating.
