Hopefully we can have some get togethers while I am there. I will be hanging with Kakki and Dulson and Michelle for sure and having a martini or two. I am finishing up a movie and attending the NAMM show. We are gonna hang with Joni at the gallery on Thursday. Have a great week everyone. Best Paz GO SAINTS! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Jan 2007 23:25:22 +0000 From: missblux@googlemail.com Subject: Subject: Joni's fans Hi Monika, wow, I love your inquisitiveness! I don't think it's a matter of loving her or hating her, as I have never met anyone who hated her. I think some people feel a very direct connection with her and love her for that. I was surprised to find that a friend of mine had one or two of her cds and that they weren't among her top fab favourites, because with her it's usually either that very intimate connection or they have never heard of her / not paid attention. I would have thought that if you go to other websites people are as fanatic about Barbara Streisand or Bjoerk or Billie Holiday or Johnny Halliday for that matter as people here are about Joni, but what do I know.... I have to say that I don't think everything about her is made of gold. When I see video clips of her or pictures I sometimes think she feels awkward and shy, and sometimes arrogant. But others will see the same clip and find that she is radiant and amazing. Bene Date: Sun, 14 Jan 2007 11:34:31 EST From: Motitan@aol.com Subject: Joni's fans Well from the things I have read (reviews, articles, so forth), it seems as if Joni has fans who simply don't just like her. It seems to go deeper than that. It seems that her fans have an ADMIRATION or adulation for her moreso than what I've seen with other artists. Now I can't say for sure so that is why I bring this up. From your experiences, (if you've seen her in concert and the like) would you deem this to be true? I hope I'm making sense here. It seems to me, you either love her (go above and beyond) or well, hate her (if you're not a fan or don't know her). Does Joni have "casual" fans? It could be that the reviews and things I read just happen to be left by "Joniphiles" since well, a casual fan probably wouldn't take time to review or post, hmm? - - -Monika (the one who always comments on all things strange and not important!) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Jan 2007 16:58:28 -0800 (PST) From: Bob Muller Subject: The Breckers Just for the record, The Brecker Brothers were Michael & Randy. Walter was not a Brecker, he is a Becker and no relation. The Breckers were not a part of Joni's tour with Tom Scott & the LA Express. Michael Brecker's work on Shadows & Light blows me away every time I hear it. And I think it would be a very unpleasant thought for her, and I would imagine, holds true for her true, blue fans to even think that there are people out there who idolize and worship her, as if she were a goddess. So called, other rock or movie ~stars~ may have their head in all of this poker-chip disc glory. That's false! She was not put on this planet for that! How could she, if she's all about truth? Her whole being is about that, like many other loving, compassionate beings. It just so happens she has a voice that screeches up through the Universe with so much anguish when she sees injustices. She has a heart drenched in love for everybody, even if she is a lonely painter living in a box of paints. She loooves the romance! And Joni is so many things and she feels like a long, lost friend who's never, ever left. Joni & James at the BBC: In my opinion, the start of "California" is a "lift" from JT. I like it best with just 2 instruments and one voice. Joni & Robben Ford trading phrases at the end of "You Turn Me On (I'm A Radio)" on Miles of Ailes. Joni's "Amelia" as a prelude to "Pat's Solo" on S&L. Joni & Jaco slapping. It's somewhere on DJRD, but I'm not sure of the title. You said in part, >it seems as if Joni has fans who simply don't just like her. It seems to go deeper than that. It seems that her fans have an ADMIRATION or adulation for her moreso than what I've seen with other artists.> I think the depth of the admiration is just about right. This is not some bubblegum singer; she's the tops. Now Monika, >From your experiences, (if you've seen her in concert and the like) would you deem this to be true?> At the tour following BSN, there were lots of casual fans who thought they were going to get something like "Miles of Aisles with strings". There were fans who rejected the piano songs. I think it at the Isle Of Wight where someone offstage clearly called out "Joni, you've CHANGED." Monika said, >It seems to me, you either love her (go above and beyond) or well, hate her. It could be that the reviews and things I read just happen to be left by "Joniphiles" since well, a casual fan probably wouldn't take time to review or post, hmm?> Strangely, some casual (former?) fans did take the time to write caustic reviews of BSN and submit them.
