Some people, like Sherelle, can't download in the first place, so they might be interested. It has got to be frustrating for you, Mark, that it never seems to work. I think I saw where this only is available to USA users, btw. But damn I've been jamming to all kinds of stuff all day. Real good, for free! and there-in partially, lies the rub. You notice I said "REAL". SHeesh! its by the same folks that made RealPlayer. Which I've always more or less detested. I always wish hope pray that a thing opens in Quicktime, or even WMP rather than the insidious and rapacious RealPlayer. So what I've found is that in order to get more info about what an upgraded membership would give you, you must go ahead and upgrade. And its $10 a month. Sorta kinda almost worth it. But I'm not quite ready to jump. Although they sure do have some excellent stuff available on there. So here's what I'm wanting to know.... it mentions the word "burn"....... So if I burn a CD from an upgraded Rhapsody.com membership, can I then import the cut into iTunes as an .mp3?? or is there some kind of funky encoding that would mean you can only use it from that CD itself? or on their .mp3 player. Thats the other thing that slightly puts me off - they want to sell you their player/iPod thingy. Does anybody here use an upgraded membership to rhapsody.com? I am not a fan of Sony products, although I do not own a minidisc recorder. Make sure the unit says 'recorder' or it may just be a player. Also, the newer Hi-MD format blanks cost about $7 each, as opposed to the regular MD which go for about $1.50 each. They are not cross-compatable with the devices. You would also need a mic, I don't think they have a built-in one (but I could be wrong about that). Here is an info site about MD : http://www.minidisc.org/index.php If your son or his friends have an ipod, this device allows you to turn it into a high quality recorder for 80 bucks! "Supposedly", I just found it, but it looks interesting, and works with other devices, as well, via USB port. It has RCA inputs, so presumably you would need a preamp (and a mic): http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/GEMINI-IKEY If your son is into making his own demos, this amazing little 4 track recorder goes for $149, contains it's own mic, and records on Smartmedia flash cards. Actual record time may be less than an MD (not sure), but this is a cool and versatile looking device, with it's own drum machine, bass sounds...(for making demos). It can be used as a straight recorder, like an MD. http://www.zzounds.com/item--ZOMPS04 I hope I have sufficiently confused you by now. ("bars in hear head, romantic and snowblind"): "I do, yes I do, yes I really really do" (enjoy my Joni friends). So, off to google again for the lyrics, and there is Judy Garland whom we all know and love. "You made me love you I didn't want to do it, I didn't want to do it You made me love you and all the time you knew it I guess you always knew it. We watched it tonight. I will say that, at one point, the film seemed like it was a bit of a campaign ad for "Gore in 2008," but in the main it was just a good documentary that presented scientific data. That data is pretty hard to ignore once you've been exposed to it. And I'm sure that is one reason why Mr. Gore has made it a personal mission to share the information with as many people as possible. Other concerns may seem to be more pressing because it *seems* that they're more urgent. It *seems* that, if we ignore the other concerns, bad things could happen more quickly than the consequences of global warming. But Gore talks about dire problems (worsening storms, melting glaciers and polar caps, seas rising 20 feet) happening in as little as 50 years. I don't know about you, but I'm 48 and I fully intend to still be living at age 98. California may indeed become an island after the Big Quake hits, but I don't want that island to be water-logged. So it would seem like now, rather than later, would be the time to do something different, to live differently. One of the most compelling bits of information comes at the end of the film, when Gore shows a graph (of which there are many throughout the movie) that shows that doing this, that, and the other thing (using more energy efficient appliances, simply wasting less electricity, driving a vehicle that gets more miles per gallon, etc.) can have a huge impact on -- and even cause a reversal of -- the warming that is occuring. These are things that individual people can do; we don't have to rely on corporations or the government to lead the way. Lori Santa Rosa, CA P.S. - Oh look!
