My husband and I went to LA this weekend to use some movie tickets we got months ago and I kind of insisted we drive to Hollywood to see Joni's exhibit. There was no one in the gallery but us and we met Lev who was kind enough to talk to us about the show, about Joni, show us the beautiful catalogs he designed ($175 I think?) and the framed prints available ($7,000?) not to mention the prints themselves which are $17K. I don't know. My mind was reeling. The show is dark lightwise and subjectwise. After the third room of these triptychs, I said I would be sick at heart to look at these images nonstop for six months (which is what it took her and Lev to get them done). Very powerful. But I guess when you're inspired with something you've got to let it go to its end. Lev is such a nice man. Didn't know us at all and was so nice to share part of his afternoon with us. He's thrilled to have met and worked with Joni. Glad you guys found the LA Times article because he showed it to us, we went and bought a copy of the LA Times and couldn't find it. Wah. But there it is. So glad to have seen the show. And there was one photo as you're entering the gallery that must have been Lev and Joni raising the banner outside the gallery. You can only see part of Joni's face but that woman just lights up a picture, doesn't she? She's looking up and there's a big smile on her face. Beautiful photo. I'd love to go and immerse myself in the exhibit for a few hours. I am a huge Georgia O'Keefe fan and did that in Chicago a few years ago with an exhibit of hers. I am planning a trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts during the holidays to view Annie Leibovitz exhibit "American Music" which looks fascinating to me; I love her work, especially the photo she took of Joni in the garden. I wonder -- are there naughty words or something in those digests that my email account may have rejected the whole whopping thing? And how come I can no longer find the discussion list archives?
