Yeah, it depends on how cold it is. It's pretty darn cold out there tonight and it's windy, so I'll wear a hat, if I can find it. I'm definitely wearing gloves. It probably isn't THAT cold, but the temperature changed suddenly and it's got us all confused. If everybody had common sense and knew how to live in peace without bothering anyone else we wouldn't have a need for whole lot of laws. But I hear/read stories everyday that are appalling or just stupid...like the man in Florida who went swimming in a lake at 3 in the morning, had his leg bitten off by an alligator. He told police he was high on crack. This is why we have laws. People can't smoke in public places but we don't have an annual safety check on automobiles. So if the car in front of you doesn't have brake lights and the car behind you doesn't have any brakes at all, you can rest assured that you won't ingest second hand smoke at the auto repair garage. This is progress? I'm for government protecting me from hazards but smoke isn't at the top of the list. We don't recycle cans or plastic in this state. Don't hold us up as an example, Anne! I think that if one of the parents smokes, the kids often start too. If both parents smoke, it's almost a certainty. My mother was a smoker. Both my brother and I used to smoke, but we both quit ages ago. My older sister never smoked. The two younger ones both smoke like chimneys, and one of their husbands will wake up in the middle of the night to have a smoke and in the morning sounds like he's coughing up a lung - which, no doubt, he is. Their three kids smoke, and one of my other sister's two kids smokes as well. They all started very young. > See her picture here: > http://www.transplantbuddies.org/images/pix.html#kathryn > > > And read her stories here: > http://www.2ndwind.org/members/kathryn_flynn.html > > http://www.2ndwind.org/about/board.html > > > > She has since completed that master's degree and is > a special educator of > blind children in Raleigh. > > So please stay away from that smoke! > That puts a real face on people who have received and given the gift of life. I know people who have received a kidney transplant and others who are waiting. Signing an donor card is great, but just doing that or saying in your will that you're an organ donor isn't enough. You have to make sure your family members all know that that's your wish and be sure they will respect it. If you should die, by the time they find your organ donor card, it may be too late. By the time they read your will, it will definitely be too late. Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tired of spam? Yahoo! [ABSOLUTELY NJC] now SHORTBUS [also NJC whatsoever] Bene, Shortbus I absolutely loved. It is a sweet heartsong and love gift to New York City still trembling after 9/11/01. That I knew in the five years it took to reach the screen, about the creation process this film had, only adds to my appreciation for it. Justin Bond shines so brightly. The Ed Koch/former mayor of NYC scenes made me cry. Some scenes made me laugh from my soul. I love John Cameron Mitchell and think and feel he is a genius, and Shortbus is his latest and greatest gift to us. This film, definitely not for the nudity or sexually graphic-squeamish among us, is well worth seeing on the big screen, rather than DVD... in my humble opinion. ~Richard Date: Wed, 6 Dec 2006 12:48:52 +0000 From: missblux@googlemail.com Subject: njc "Borat"-extremly funny movie! [ABSOLUTELY NJC] I may be in the minority, but I found this Sacha Baron Cohen endeavor juvenile, and somewhat boring. Maybe I'm a jaded San Francisco queer, but for me there was nothing even remotely as funny and Candid Camera-esque as he tried to be. His character became annoying, and redundant, his side-kick irrelevant, and there was way too much filler between 'reality' scenes. Wait for the DVD, if I were you. ~Richard - - --------------- Hi Richard, maybe you are a jaded San Francisco queer, but you are nothing as negative about Baron-Cohen as I am! I have never liked this sense of humour. I don't think there is anything surprising or scary or revealing about people's reactions, and I find it somehow sadistic the way he manipulates them into awkward situations. I find that the manipulation is a double one, because he also manages to manipulate his audience to think that this is funny. He makes cowboys sing songs about jews, and then he makes us laugh about it. He embarrasses a couple by saying the wife is not attractive, but they lack the courage to tell him to fuck of, and we are supposed to laugh? It's clever but I think it's wrong! He sweeps his audience away the same way he tricks people. I have to say, uhm, that I have only watched a few episodes of Da Ali G, and seen trailers from Borat on TV. It was enough to make me not want to see the film. I have been wanting to hear what people on this list would think, I've had this feeling that SURELY they won't like it... but if they do maybe I should go.....? But I watched Shortbus this Friday and was very impressed! There are weak points at places in the story, but well done!!
