Henry" Subject: moon at the window or in the mirror... Les, That is beautiful! I gotta tell ya, this brings back a real mystery to me though. As I've told you before, in the Cellar days one of the most requested songs Joni played in her sets was "Moon in the Mirror" and yet with the many rarities sets we have on record none have ever contained this song! Out of twenty or so times I saw Joni play back then I can't imagine that there was ever a single night she didn't play it, even when she was still playing with Chuck, and yet, to my knowledge no one has ever heard it except at the Cellar. It just doesn't make sense that no one's run across it. For example it amazes me that she didn't play it in the context of the 2nd Fret sessions. It's just a mystery to me. http://jonimitchell.com/musician/song.cfm?id=MoonInTheMirror I believe I was the first ever to bring Joni's song, "The Wizard of Is", to light (which she taught me) and how it was written to the chords of Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne" way back in '99: http://www.smoe.org/lists/joni/v04.n205 http://www.smoe.org/lists/joni/v04.n220 and I was elated recently to find that someone had unearthed a recording of it confirming that what I said about it was true... I really wish that could happen with "Moon in the Mirror"... It would also be interesting to compare with "The Moon at My Window" Best Regards, Pat - -- "The last time I saw Joni was Detroit in '68..." http://www.angelfire.com/pq2/phenryboland/ - -- - --------------------------------------------- Les wrote: Subject: The Moon at My Window One thing I love about doing the Joni website is the messages I often get out of the blue. I hang on every word he says because (like Joni) he knows how important words are. He made a statement that I thought was very cool and also made me thing of Joni..."I kind of went on my own path, and it was neat to look over my shoulder and see that there were others following behind me" (or something like that). Jon was very honored to have him there, and he closed the show out with a different-sounding version of "The Day After Tomorrow" - unfortunately they ran out of time and cut into the song and into Colbert's show. I'm sure thousands of tapers around the country were issuing some choice words when that happened. A friendly reminder that JT will be on our TV screens again tomorrow: FRI, DECEMBER 1 - TODAY SHOW - NBC - 7-10AM (ET) Ha! Another late-to-work day! Have you all been talking about last night's PBS special today? I don't know, because I'm on digest. I could write all night about it, but I don't have the time right now. Suffice it to say that my tear ducts got totally emptied. The Dixie Chicks totally rocked, and Carole King, and his brother, and the kids, and Sting, and you know..... Yet, to look at both sides now, why weren't Ben and Sally there? And I wonder what Joni and Carly thought of it all. Hmmmm.... N'importe quoi. I recently wrote about the last time I saw him (in August), and forgot to share another memory of that concert with you all, so here goes. Maybe you will laugh? That's my intent: I was sitting to the right of the stage, in the second level, so I was above the stage, with a bird's eye view. Now, I don't mean to be negative or unkind, and I don't ever like to comment on anyone's physical aging or anything cuz that's just not nice, but I couldn't help hearing Joni in my head (comme d'habitude....LOL!) singing: "Watching your hairline recede, my vain darling." No offense, JT! With affection and respect, a lot of passion, Patti P. _________________________________________________________________ All-in-one security and maintenance for your PC.
