Don't stop now, we're just beginning. It starts with one person standing up and speaking out, and then a lot of people, powered by grassroots and netroots and a passion to do better. That's what I heard all over the state: we can do better. The last week of the campaign was so heartening, traveling the state in a big old campaign bus stopping by hot dog stands and rallies and, finally, polling stations. The bus sang out a little Marley or U2 as we wheeled into some of the towns and folks responded with hi fives and big grins. Kids ran up and shouted, "And so do we!" They responded to a fun, positive message of hope and I loved the fact that we won the overwhelming majority of the votes in the mock school elections around the state. And then on election day, there you were, standing in the rain at the polling stations into the evening waiting for the last of the voters to straggle in. We worked our hearts out; it's ironic that our message of change did not carry the day in Connecticut but it helped spark a sea change in Congress. Let's make sure they act boldly: bring our troops home from Iraq to the hero's welcome they deserve, invest in our kids, invest in clean energy, universal healthcare, a government that respects our constitution, our right to privacy, and shows respect for other nations and cultures. We will be a stronger and better nation for it. Peace, Ned Paid for by Ned Lamont for Senate, John Hartwell, Treasurer This email was sent to: loveuconn@hotmail.com *********** P.S. I'm afraid that our friend Patti has taken my defeat rather hard. We have been assuring her, as have some of you jmdlers, that we may have lost the battle, but we have won the war. Darn right! Nevertheless, she seems to on a lonely road and she is processing, processing, processing.... We saw some hot hot blazes come down in smoke and ash Tuesday night. So don't mind if she falls apart -- there's more room in a broken heart. We believe her optimism will return, but just at this moment of the world, she is having a little trouble seeing the forest for the tree museum she in. Only a phase..... Like so many others, she really did work her heart out. On the phone banks, at two polling stations on Election Day in the rain, organizing my first two rallies at UConn, and you know there may be more. Ha! How could I ever forget? At the third rally when I went around shaking hands, she spontaneously threw open her arms and gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek and thanked me profusely for running. That clip was shown on TV stations throughout CT because it was so unusual.....I often kiss babies, but not usually middle-aged women! Middle-aged, middle class -- she must have been WILD in the old days! (Birth of rock and roll days.) We were sitting up waiting up for our sugar to show Tuesday night, and when she didn't arrive at our Meriden HQ, I sent a staffer out to her ranch house on the hill. Katie found her up on her small white bed, surrounded by empty bottles of Rhein wine. She was singing all kinds of cheesy sixties songs, and then segued into Joni Mitchell songs. (Yes, of course I know and love Joni! I am 52, the same age as Patti and many of you.) She said: "I don't care if they are moldie oldies, Bobby -- you're so square! It's my Democratic party, and I'll cry if I want to!" "Who is Bobby?", Katie asked. "Muller!" she said. Anyway, here are some examples of her singing and chanting and idiomatic logic, from what Katie remembers. Someone left the Patty cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take Cuz it took so long to bake it And I'll never find that recipe agaiiiiinnn oh noooooooooooooooooo Jed Dumont's Park is melting in the dark all the sweet little green icing melting downnnnnnnnnnnnnnn down down the dark ladder Oh sour grapes, because I've lost my heart I'm not gonna fix it up too easy I didn't know the system I didn't understand I had all the wrong fuses and splices How is Patrick going to get health insurance now? What about all the hungry little ones? More about the war, and the bloody changes. That Creeperman. Just more bang bang ketchup color to him. We have all come To fear the beating of his drum He won't give peace a chance. He's so vain. Oh, his jealousy, his greed is the unravelling I tell you it's the unravelling He undid all the joy that could be. Oh Ned, can you find me the peace and the star? Starlight, starbright You got the peace lovin' that I like All right Turn this crazy election around I shook my fists at Creeperman I roared like forest fire I spread my light like blazes all across the sky I aimed the hoses on 'em Tell me we did not expire! I can't take it I can't seem to believe it. I was up all night in the studio And up early on the ranch There WAS good reception for us Why did some tune us out? I'm selfish And I'm sad Now we've gone and lost The best peace candidate We ever had. Those Creeperman voters Their attitude's all wrong! They've gotta change But it's not easy They trickled through our leaky plans Another dream over the dam I really can't give love in this condition But you know how I need it I'm blue-er than BLUE Sadder than sad BluuuuuuuuoooooooooOOOOOooooooooOOOOOO0ooooooooooo "Scary stuff up in that sterilized room", Katie reported. "It was like the walls came tumbling down, and all the dogs went running free. It was like watching Sybil again." Over the past few days, though, she seems to be getting her spirit back a bit. Her anima is rising, which is a good sign. She's a vengeful little peace goddess. Out of the fire, like Catholic saints, comes Parlette and her deep complaint, singing "Let's impeach the President!" "He drove us into a ditch, that son of a b@#ch!" As a matter of fact, this morning she woke up and said: "Ha! Don't worry 'bout me. Woman she bounce back easy.....but Creeperman? I could break both his legs!" "Who the F@#K does he think he is? Freakin' Kitty Wells?????????" - ------ Hi guys. That's not Ned's P.S., of course. That's me again. This was a wild week. After all the energy and excitement generated by Ned, this was a huge plummet of a letdown. SPLAT goes your heart on the floor. I was stunned into silence. (Plus the congressional race in my district is undergoing a recount. My man Courtney is up by 167 against warmonger Simmons.) ANYWAY, I want to thank you for letting me vent and most of all, thank you so much for all your kind expressions of sympathy and support. You have really and truly helped my healing this week and I'm ready to get back in the saddle again. Everyone up on the peace train.....it really IS sounding louder now! And the coup de grace -- the icing on the cake -- Macaca-witz goes down. Wooooo hoooo! High fives all around! And Nancy? YOU GO, GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love and peace, et bon weekend, Patti P. Pam's ex-fiance (Roy), who works in the warehouse, is lamenting the fact that he and Pam will no longer work with each other and he says to the camera: "You know that Cinderella song, "You Don't Know What You Got Till It's Gone"? It's just now dawning on me that there probably IS a Cinderella song with that title and it wasn't a clever Joni Mitchell reference at all. Love, Patti P, ready to go to sleep in heavenly peace, wishing you all the same -- except for our friends out in LA at Joni's opening. I wonder how it's going! I hope they are having a wonderful Night in the City of the Fallen Angels. Can't wait to hear all about it. Voila: Wreaths Of Peace Help Fight Hunger November 10, 2006 Here's a lovely way to add a natural, decorative accent for the holidays while celebrating some of their deeper significance as well. Lindsay Olives is offering 20-inch wreaths of freshly cut olive branches from California groves, along with a 12-inch gold metal hanger, for $50 - with 100 percent of the proceeds from the wreath sales going to America's Second Harvest-The Nation's Food Bank Network. From the dove that carried an olive branch to Noah during the flood, indicating the end of God's wrath, to the official seal of the United States, the olive branch is rich with centuries of history as a symbol of peace and goodwill. Some speculate that the olive branch symbolizes peace because the trees take such a long time to bear fruit, which makes cultivating olives impossible during times of war. The fresh green branches of the hand-woven wreaths dry to a lovely silvery green. They come from trees throughout the Central Valley, says company spokeswoman Judy Rowcliffe. "They just finished harvesting," she says. "This is when they trim the trees anyway." Rowcliffe says the company began this tradition five years ago. "We wanted to be part of what goes on around the holiday season, but it's a very crowded time. Olives themselves are a traditional part of the Thanksgiving and Christmas meal, and we knew we didn't need to promote olives themselves." Company officials plan to launch a different holiday gift-giving tradition next year, Rowcliffe says; this is the last year the family-run business will offer the wreaths to benefit America's Second Harvest. By the end of this season, she says, they expect to have donated $20,000 to the hunger-relief organization. To order a wreath, call 800-765-2029, or go to www.LindsayOlives.com. The website also has lots of tempting recipes and a wealth of information, including a fascinating little section titled "Olives 101." - - NANCY SCHOEFFLER (from today's Hartford Courant) _________________________________________________________________ Find a local pizza place, music store, museum and morethen map the best route! http://local.live.com?FORM=MGA001 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Nov 2006 23:25:30 -0500 (EST) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Odd-looking Joni pic (imo, anyway) - --- Lori Fye wrote: > Catherine wrote: > > > I wish I could find the Joni in fiction link! > > Why are so many people having trouble with the > website?
