Today's batch featured an unusually high number of Joni covers, for whatever reasons of randomness would cause that which I surely don't understand. It was kind of neat! With the shuffle you can't see any title/artist info of course, so I have no clue who the people were, but my fave was that CBSASF by (i think???) Tim Curry. Does that sound familiar? Just got home, voted in the heavy rain. Hope that doesn't stop voters here in Florida. My work buddy and I were talking about the fact that they SAY that when there is bad weather the democratic turn out is traditionally not good. So we were goofing on that a bit (and hoping it wasn't true) saying well that's got to be because the Dems are just too lazy and unmotivated to get themselves up off the porch where they do nothing but sit and wait for their checks. Happy election day, all, sorry to bore the int'l folks with those comments. I've always thought my designs are a bit too busy for desktop wallpapers. They need to be fairly plain so you can see what's on your desktop. I got into it by way of designing CD covers though. I strongly connect the song with the artist. CD covers that don't show the artist always annoyed me. Unless, of course, it features art work by the artist which is their own expression of the song or album but, I still like to see the artist on the back or somewhere. These are meant to represent, not only the song but, Joni too. The idea is to have Joni on your computer desktop but featuring a song too. As if Joni is there on your computer, performing that song for you. That's what's in my head, anyway. I just need to keep in mind that people still need to use their computers while looking at these. Thanks for letting me know your thoughts on them though, Mr Nielsen. Mark in Sydney PS I'm a little like you with song abbreviations. I like to write and see written the whole song title. I guess in those other states where they ban liquor sales on election days you just have to stock up in advance....like for a hurricane. I agree that if I buy a CD I want to see a picture of the artist, I actually get quite frustrated when I don't see him or her. Maybe my reaction to her face on Holy War was that the was message of the text and the imagery is so strong and her face seems to somehow interfere with that. I think wallpaper is somehow differenct from CD covers, but I don't know why, because I have had lots of faces as screen savers. Somehow, to have Joni Mitchell staring at me from my screen seems too intimate, as if I had a close friend or lover staring at me. Maybe I'm just a bit incoherent about he whole thing...! I would thank Joni for the many, many gifts she has shared with me for over three decades. I would tell Joni that she has 'saved' me countless times and provided me with courage, solace and many reasons for keep on keepin' on. On this day of Joni's birth, I feel so incredibly fortunate to be alive during Joni's life and to learn and enjoy so much from her sharing so many amazing talents through her career (that I know will continue for decades to come).
