The venue is the popular, distinctly Florida Skipper Smokehouse, home of a Joni minifest a few years back when Muller and the hurricanes blew into town. A close cousin of mine is performing, playing sax in the Power to the People song which a gang of locals recorded about a year ago. In a bit of Joni synchronicity, I was listening (again) to an interview Joni gave in 1988 where she was asked about the relevancy of Woodstock, since it is specifically about a very distinct historic moment. As always, our brilliant Joni deflects the specifics in favor of the greater artistic good. Which brings us to the two most recent songs played on WMNF to promote the all day affair, Helpless and Woodstock, both to be performed liberally throughout the day, to reflect contemporary, current dismay and hope for the goodness of all new generations. It's nice to hear Amy Holland McDonald's vocals again. And of course, I am a big fan of Michael McDonald. "by their fruits ye shall know them" Yes..on the surface she expresses great empathy for children... and for people who are in some kind of crisis for one reason or another...but to subordinates along the way she has been heartless and cruel. Do you remember her purging of the White House staff when she and Bill came to town? Most of these people were life-long careerists ...in apolitical posts...nonpartisan civil servant types....but because of her paranoia.. they were given the axe. FRUITS: One of the four White House ushers was fired because he answered the phone when Barbara Bush called about a computer he was programming for her. This father with a wife and several children to support was fired for having the courtesy to answer the phone. The White House travel staff...yes...all were fired at Hillary's insistence. Apolitical people who had been in those positions many years. One guy in particular had worked there for thirty two- years. To get rid of these people in the travel office.. lies were made up ...like.. they had their hands in the cookie jar. ..that type of stuff. It is one thing to fire people so you can reward friends or divert attention to those evil Repubs who tolerated stealing by the travel office ..and now the Clintons were going clean things up.... ...but to take that another step further and ruin someone's reputation is a whole other matter. Yes..she had every right to fire these people..but the smears and lies ..she did not. "the vast right-wing conspiracy"...oh yes..who can forget that one... her on national television ...knowing there was no right- wing conspiracy concerning her husband dalliances....after all she had been dealing with his "animal house" antics for years...and years. I have just scratched the surface ..but I stick by with what I wrote....Hillary is not a nice person. What is the point of reading history books..biographies ..if you have to know someone personally? Did you know Hitler personally....or Lincoln...Jefferson.....Jesus....? If you go to the amazon website, just under the blurb about the new CD, there's a film clip (short). He looks and sounds very good for an old geezer. Maybe this clip is on his website too: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I5X82O/ref=pe_5310_3465930_pe_snp_82O Rosie posted something about this the other day with a link to his website: http://www.catstevens.com/ Click on the "sing" button and you'll hear a clip of his new song (really an old old with new lyrics and a different arrangement). His website is very cute and I'm sure the illustrations are his own - I always enjoyed his artwork which is the kind of stuff that would make wonderful children's books. Move your mouse around the virtual room to get from one spot to another on the website. Often websites of that type annoy me, but some, including this one, are cleverly done and the bright colours appeal to my deteriorating eyesight (diving down to pick up on every shinnnnnning thing) Lots more to explore there, I think, and I don't think I'm going to be disappointed with his new CD, based on what I've heard. The lyrics are spiritual without being hammer-on-the-head religious. Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tired of spam? Yahoo!
