All the people at this party have really helped me learn and grow (TIC! That you're getting what you need Or you're giving out anything for them to grow and feed on). It's a warm arrangement. Yes, overcoming is always, always the way to go. Some quotes that helped me, too, are: "The best way out is always through." Robert Frost "If you're going through hell, keep going." Winston Churchill "People ask me how do you get up and do what you do every day? I do it for my girls. I do it to show them what you have to do when life throws you a major curveball." Katie Couric (I threw the yellowed copy of that one on my fridge out last year, so it is paraphrased from memory.) And then, of course, tons and tons (or tonnes, a la Mags!) of Joni! So, here's to overcoming adversity. Hey, Kakki, lets take out our Catholic schoolgirl (or rather, Joni) berets. Yours was blue, as I recall (given to you by your aunts when they went to France?), and mine was red. So, let's switch 'em, trade 'em, whatever, and stand on a noisy streetcorner, waiting for the walking green, and throw them up in the air, Mary Tyler Moore style and sing: "We're going to make it after all!" Love, Patti P., at home today to have my furnace cleaned AND the septic tank pumped out, as the leaves fall and before the pond over-ices. In one of the links you sent us, Kakki, http://ex-donkey.mu.nu/archives/166079.php I noticed this in particular: "Despite the camaraderie between the two, the crowd was clearly more receptive to Obama's remarks than Lieberman's speech about party unity and the potential for Democratic victories at the ballot box this fall." Ha! "Lieberman's speech about party unity." Where is his party unity now? We Dems in CT, w/Lamont, would have had a cakewalk to "Democratic victories at the ballot box this fall" if Lieberman could remember his own speech about party unity and weren't running as an Independent. We all worked so hard in that primary, and then Lieberman decides that he is going to buck his party because HE knows what is best for this state and this country? I don't trust him for a minute. Plus he's been for the war since day one, and that's all I need to know. More from that link: "But, of course, the only poll that matters at this point is the one among Democrat voters. Go figure. In a match-up against challenger Ned Lamont, Lieberman cleans his clock 68%-13%. And 61% of Democrats polled say Lieberman deserves reelection. Ouch. That's worse than even I expected. Granted, Lamont has zero name recognition right now. It's a long way to August. And then there's the potential financial support of Left-wing 527's. But overcoming a 55 point deficit? Sometime over the next four months the CT Democrats in Hartford are going to have to officially endorse Lieberman. How long will they wait in order to try and appease the moonbats? - ---- Look at the pre-primary numbers -- those facts and figures scrawled: 68%-13%! He was a son of a teacher who was also a preacher, btw, a very religious family, many songs relate to his father, as well as his book "And The Ass Saw The Angel". I know a girl named Jo, who one day realized that she was living in the same street where Nick used to live, and she had the funniest Nick in the neighborhood stories, not at all the Goth boy we all love, hehe, but still very sweet. I've played in the worst & the best situations (sound wise). Sometimes its is sounding so bad on stage but not out in the audience. Which is no fun because even if the audience loved you - if you didn't enjoy the experience it wasn't a great show... I've learned who are the good sound people & who are not & always ask before a gig & try to avoid the ones that are not pros. Also, some venues just aren't meant to be for music. The big guys & gals have their own salaried sound people for a very good reason. I've learned to just play even if the sound sucks, enjoy the experience as much as possible or fake it if not. But feedback is not acceptable. These days I'm enjoying the duo/trio acoustic thing cuz the sound is easier to control. It is amazing how some can make my beautiful jumbo acoustic sound soooo good or soooo bad, depending on their skill. I need to learn how to control it from my end more. FWIW (acoustic amps are great for solo I'm heard but if you're doing the band thing you need to get it right for everyone) >How do the other performing listers deal with foldback on stage? Things are usually not too bad when playing at low levels, but once you get the drums in, it all seems to become much more of a problem. I'm always worried about pissing off the soundman while he's trying to get a FOH balance, but I'm wondering whether I should start being very pushy about foldback. Also, does it solve anything as an acoustic guitarist to buy an acoustic guitar amp.? I have known him personally for many years and can vouch for the fact that the image is an accurate reflection of the man. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Oct 2006 23:45:35 -0500 From: "mack watson-bush" Subject: Re: Marcie Good theory Kate. Does he represent one wing of the party and not the other? Is he betraying the party if most of the party members are going to vote for him? I sense the Dems may be morphing or splitting off into two parties. If you look at history in the U.S. most all political parties have had a finite shelf life and have morphed or evolved into a new party down the road. It could happen to Republicans, too. I see Republicans basically split into about four different factions at this point and some of those factions fiercely oppose the others. All of the factions disagree strongly on many points but there are still a few key issues that they unite on that sort of keeps them together although many hold their noses to vote for a lot of the candidates. I voted today (we have early voting here) and definitely had to hold my nose on a number of candidates and propositions. Lots of compromise in basically a two party system. I ad to vote for the conservation bond. Even though it's going to cost the state, I have worked on these kind of initiatives for years and cannot be a hypocrite on that issue. On the other hand, I laughed out loud when I saw a proposition to raise the cost (up the taxes) of a pack of cigs $2.60. Good grief! I'm tempted to look into moving to Panama when I see stuff life that. And guess what? Obama made a visit to my firm's San Fran office yesterday! He is a friend with one of our attorneys. He signed books and stuff and then it was said Neil Young was supposed to show up, too. I thought that was just joking but later learned it was really true and Neil couldn't make it at the last minute. What a trip! Work does have its interesting moments sometimes ;-) Kakki ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2006 #402 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe -------
