Listen all, I am sorry that the list is so full of NJC right now, I'll keep any further postings on this subject very short. I just get quite upset about these matters.... Lori Fye wrote: "And you can argue all day that a 15-year old is not a child, but how about if you think of your OWN child at that age (or younger, or older), and consider how you would feel if an adult had sex with him (or her)?" "what if you think of your OWN child" - the thing is, parents fortunately don't think of their own children as sexual beings, and at least I'd think that it is normal that kids don't share their feelings about sex with their parents, I know I didn't, and I know I did many things as a teenager that it would have been horrifying to my parents to think of. I'd almost say, ask parents when and with whom they think their kids should have sex. Then subtract four years and replace the prince(ss) on a white horse with a regular guy or girl, and you'd get an acceptable compromise. In any case, I think that sex with teenagers should not be termed pedophilia which is sex with children. You can argue that both are abusive, but the former is, in my book, a true perversion, the latter is not, although it may be abusive. Vigilante justice is just wrong. Not to mention that the instances of actual pedophilia are so exaggerated by our culture's hysteria about it, that without ironclad evidence, one must be very careful. That's what the rule of law--and courts--are for. - --------- The best way I can put it is this: pedophilia is a pervese crime, but the whole debate about it reaks of perversion too. It is well documented that there have been waves of false accusations, of parents and carers brainwashing kids to report abuse that was the pure product of the adults' imagination. "Anything to protect the kid" - yes, but this hysteria doesn't help the kids if it putrefies any normal relationship between kids and adults; and that is what is happening. Men no longer want to work in kindergardens, and no wonder: I cannot imagine the stigma it must be to be falsely accused. In DK, we had the 'spelling plate scandal': carers helped mentally handicapped kids to point to letters on a plate; and the stories of parental abuse that emerged were appalling. But it was all in the mind of the carers - and how did it get there??? is my question. No details here, but there were also careres who pointed to 'indicators' in babies' behaviour which would tell off that they had been abused - and it was all the rpoduct of their own sick minds. It's like those religious people in the US who played records backwards and heard all kinds of EVIL, satanic messages. I can't remember which rockband had done the same thing to their own record, and all they heard were sweet little stories about lollipops. Why did the priests only hear the voice of Satan? Who put it there? Here in the UK, a doctor had her house attacked by idiots who didn't know that pediatrician is a different word from pedophile. It's not so much that they were idiots, but that this particular crime makes ordinary people take the law into their own hands. Lori you said we want to defend these people because "they have been the victims of [blah, blah blah]" and that they deserve to be shot. You know that you can put 'pedophilia' into those brackets: most molesters have been molested themselves. When you talk about there not being enough space in the world for the good and decent people... well I guess that is where our discussion ends. Good and decent can only ever cover a fraction of anyone's personality if you ask me. We can strive to be good and decent, but thinking it is possible on all accounts just leads to fascism. Sorry again for the long post, and for making people think about this sick subject. I almost regret that Im about to post this email... One includes exploitation by a dominent adult. The powerful adult that entices the child with money, goodies, a ranch that looks like an amusement park (sorry), etc the other legal premise is that Sexual activity with a minor is Statutory Rape. Knowing that State law is important. the recent rash of school teachers who have had sex with their male students fall in this catagory. Working with teen, many adult males are courting and dating teenage girls and we encourage their parents to file Statutory Rape charges. ive been met many children and adults who have been molested and i have have to work with children and adults who are sex offenders and molesters. the law state that young adults or teens below a certain age, cannot consent to sexual activity and therefore it is illegal. Therefore Nambla activity is illegal in most states there are boundaries of sexuality that just cant be pushed in my opinion and child sexual abuse is one of them sharon - -- Trust your intuition It's just like going fishing You cast your line And hope you're getting a bite But you don't need to waste your time Worrying about the market place Try to help the human race Struggling to survive its harshest night paul simon sage advisor, does weary mean wiser dar williams ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Oct 2006 15:01:11 +0000 From: waytoblue@comcast.net Subject: Re: Child Sex Abuse > the other legal premise is that Sexual activity with a minor is > Statutory Rape. "Society" might be more tolerant. I'm not. I think that sort of tolerance, however, goes back to this weird idea that a young male is somehow "scoring" if he has sex with his female teacher. But like you said, Victor, the damage done is just as great. The opening conversational line, scrawled on the work, was the three-word declaration "Men are (donkey-apertures)," followed by the response: "Get me some red." There was already a $600 bid on it, way before the evening's showpiece components -- a black-and-white dreamscape of a dinner, a howling, pounding, drumbeat-fueled indoor-outdoor dance -- had begun. The theme of this event was "Stanlee's Brain,'' and a huge vial of designer Stanlee Gatti's smoking cranial vapor had been uncapped. Guests proceeded to dinner through a passageway where eight people spoke at once in eight languages, and dinner, a joint production of Gatti and Paula LeDuc, started with what was called a One Karat Lemon, a lemon-flavored carrot served in a glass test tube. Gatti's gone veggie, so the menu was vegetarian, and "If we stopped killing animals would we stop killing?'' was one of the propositions printed on giveaway pencils. (But contributing restaurateurs Doug Biederbeck and Alice Waters, who'd been planning to serve meat contributions in their booths at the after-dinner dance, got a variance on this principle.) In her Sunday Swells column, Catherine Bigelow will provide more details of this party, at which all-out design quirkiness combined with the dissemination of verities expressed in signs posted all around the venue. My eye fell on Joni Mitchell's quoted wisdom, "Who you going to get to do all the dirty work when all the slaves are free?," exactly as a smiling waitress set down in front of me the carrot-containing vial, jingling it inside a drinking glass so as to make a tinkling sound, as she had been instructed to do. She seemed to be enjoying the chore. Party planners had met several times with Gatti to discuss details. but then "we got on for the ride,'' said Yerba Buena Executive Director Ken Foster. As part of the auction, $100,000 was raised by selling two lemonade stands to be designed by Gatti. "Should money have a shorter shelf life?" said another one of those pencils. I'm amending that for the obvious reason: someone is going to point out that we warehouse the mentally ill, too. Collins was a leader of the human genome project. He firmly believes that both the science of evolution and monotheistic religions can co-exist peacefully with one another, and it was C.S. I mean if these foster parents knew right from wrong, how could they have chosen wrong? It seems so illogical, there was no room for error or judgment here. Or is decency a learned behaviour? Perhaps because we are such social animals, our species depends on decent behaviour.... ah heck, what do I know? I'm just a particle of change orbiting around the sun. The album of the moment was an eclectic collaboration between a bunch of Brazilians and a tenor sax player. It was called "Getz/Gilberto" and it won 4 Grammy Awards that year. Every time I play that bossa nova album, it renders a vivid memory of the parties my folks had on the back patio in the sweltering July heat. Asturd Gilberto is singing "The Girl From Ipanema" in broken English and the Japanese lanterns above the patio seem to >swing so cool >and sway so gently. The lanterns are locked in Time. The lyrical melody, the heat, the lanterns, the cool vocals, the breathy sax and the syncopated time are all locked together, as if the heat is driving a 5 dimensional surf. Later, when I learned that Brazil is a very hot place, it made perfect sense. I'd already "been there" as a kid, transported by a collaboration called "Getz/Gilberto". - ---------------- The early 60s were a strange time for music. It was an inflection point: the big bands were mostly gone. Jazz was on the Top 40 stations but it had begun to splinter (disintegrate?). In Nashville, a scruffy punk somehow got a song to Patsy Cline. Chuck Berry had broken the color line for singer/songwriters on the pop stations. A kid from Minnesota spewed apocolyptic words but was singing with Johnny Cash on TV, etc, etc, etc. Jim L. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Oct 2006 21:19:34 -0500 From: Michael Paz Subject: Re: JT said he was Joni Mitchells bitch" .. No one knows for sure (or if they do we are not hearing about it). It could be that they are bluffing or it also could be that they are teasing and don't want to waste too much of their small stock of plutonium on a test. The poor country is run by a little lunatic. The people are starving and regularly try to flee into China (and are mostly turned back at the border). The only exports are missile and weapon technology to other rogue states and counterfeit U.S. currency. The lunatic has regularly hit (blackmailed) the U.S. and other countries up for money in exchange for broken promises that they won't develop or shoot off a nuke or invade S.K. again. We gave them billions in the 1990s and they broke their promises and apparently did nothing with the money to build their infrastructure. No one wants to invade or carpet bomb them - in part because we still have several thousand U.S. troops along the border with S.K. The leader is a wild card but does seem to make good on his threats to test the long range missiles and whatever nuke capacity they have. I don't think anyone wants to push him too far lest he nuke or otherwise harm S.K. and our troops there. Maybe he has nothing much or who knows? At any rate, Iran has observers who come to N.K. to watch the missile launches and other tests. If he does has something and sells it to the nut in Iran, whether it be conventional nukes or dirty bombs, the situation, unfortunately, bears watching carefully. I am of the opinion that the U.S. has certain technology that can deal with incoming long range ballistic missiles but how do you handle the possibility of suitcase nukes or dirty bombs smuggled in over the border? In any case, "the whole world is watching" Little Kim and I guess that is all they can do at this point. Meanwhile, I am keeping my bottle of potassium chloride pills close by these days ;-) Kakki ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2006 #386 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe -------
