Was it supposed to be funny, or serious, or highly ironic, or what? Let's face it. Bill Murray isn't exactly the image of sexiness, so how is it possible that he could have had these relationships with all of these very beautiful women? He spent a great deal of the film in a track suit (if i remember this correctly) and I don't think his facial expression changed much, if at all, throughout the film. So, waddup widdat? However, I always think he's smirking under it all, so can't take him seriously anyway, no matter how hard he tries. And I think it would probably be pretty easy to make him have a fit of the giggles. Here's another film you've got to see - Little Miss Sunshine. Great story. Great ensemble cast and, Jimmy Stewart, if you're paying attention, there's a scene in it that brings me back to our days of wandering the highways of somewhere-near-Boston, trying to get you back to your hotel, which we could clearly see, but could not manage to get to. The Japanese Tea Garden, museums and aquarium are all within walking distance of each other. And Chinatown is a fun place to check out; don't bother trying to park on the street-use a parking garage. If you haven't explored the redwood forests, that would be my suggestion; go to Big Basin State Park, it's just over the hills from where you are. You could also cruise Route 1, the coastal highway, for the eye candy and cooler temps. Other places you could check out are the little towns of La Honda (Ken Kesey's old hangout, and just up the road from Neil Young's ranch) and Woodside, which is kind of upscale yuppie rustic. Also, Santa Cruz and the boardwalk, with it's old roller coaster, arcades and waterfront restaurants. I would avoid Hwy 101-if you are going to SF get yourself over to I-280, way less traffic and it's purty, too. Yes, Steve Irwin was widely condemned for those actions, and comparisons were made to the Michael Jackson incident. Personally I think there's a world of difference between those two situations. Steve Irwin was arguably the foremost expert on crocodiles in the world, and as his wife said at the time, their baby was in no more danger than if they were teaching him to swim (in the ocean) - the irony of that statement hasn't escaped me either.... And he was definitely first and foremost an environmentalist. He did a huge amount to raise awareness of environmental issues, particularly concerning reptile conservation. His father started a reptile park, and he handled his first crocodile at the age of 9. He took over the park later (now called Australia Zoo) and owned it with his wife. He was incredibly annoying to watch, but you can't deny his passion and enthusiasm for his work - he'll definitely be missed. The lyrics were secondary at the outset. It is difficult to describe anyone else as either the Male Joni or the Female Bob Dylan, as each is a universe unto themselves. My first impression with the topic was to compare Van Morrison to Joni, vocal-wise. Van is wont to carve fresh tracks in the vocal powder, as is Joni. They also take huge vocal leaps from the expected, on occasion. Each singer demands one's attention, if for no other reason than to hear if they can land the jump successfully back in the groove. The answer has always been, "Yes, Van and Joni, go for the Chevy". (Freestyle skiing term from yesteryear meaning give it all you got.) Both are fearless at getting to the edge of their knowledge and abilities, they revel in probing for the outer limits of their art of singing. In my appreciation of Van and Joni, spanning their entire careers, I have been slightly disappointed once or twice by their lyrics or song choices, Van's more than Joni's, but never in their vocal performances. Both remain unique artistic tools intimately and wholly connected to the very centers of their souls. It was definitely not commercial. I don't really think signing Alanis Morissette was a particularly commercial choice either. Both she and Glen Ballard were pretty stalled in terms of their careers. There was a belief in her voice and her writing which was unproven. I can't say that Madonna is a musician in the conventional sense but I definitely see her as an artist. I've met people who have worked with her and she is not only a true collaborator but has also written songs on her own. I believe the Patrick you are referring to is Leonard who started working with her on her third album. Personally I don't own very many of her recordings but I give her credit for the respect she has shown other artists and for her willingness to give lesser knowns a shot without ripping them off in the process. The manufacturer controls that. The DRM and the ads are their own doing. Based on the comments about this, I have a question. Unless the performer, songwriter, publisher and label are all willing to give the download away without being paid, what model for free files do you guys think makes sense if it's not advertising? (Thank goodness for that oh so evil iPod in freeing these mixes from the bounds of a CD because sometimes 70 some minutes just isn't enough!) However, if I were to pick full lengths, then some of my choices are: Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On and I Want You Zero 7 - Simple Things Massive Attack - Protection k.d. lang - Ingenue Branford Marsalis - Romances for Saxophone Sarah Vaughan - Brazilian Romance Sweetback - Sweetback Sweetback is the group of guys who played behind Sade, led by Stuart Matthewman who is her co-writer. He has also worked with Maxwell.
