It was Ashara who told me about it and I have watched it several times since. Even though I knew it had a Joni tune in it, it still took me by wonderful surprise when I saw it the first time. Glad you got to see it. db >>> "Cassy" 8/26/2006 5:21 PM >>> From: "Cassy" <<< My favorite shows are: Mythbusters The 4400 Atiques Roadshow Medium The Closer The L Word Weeds >>> I was watching television during the day a few days ago which I very rarely do. I started watching a movie called "A Walk on the Moon" (1999). The movie stars Diane Lane, Viggo Mortensen and Anna Paquin. The story was set in 1969 and is about the awakening of a repressed housewife and her teenage daughter during the Woodstock era. All of a sudden my ears perked up... OMG it was Cactus Tree - Joni Mitchell! The soundtrack for this film was excellent and I found myself wondering what would be next. Here is a list of the soundtrack contents but this doesn't include everything they used in the film.. 1. Sunlight - The Youngbloods 2. Town Without Pity - Mandy Barnett 3. Wishin' & Hopin' - Dusty Springfield 4. Sally Go Round The Roses - Damnations TX 5. Summertime - Big Brother & The Holding Company 6. Crystal Blue Persuasion - Morcheeba 7. Today - Jefferson Airplane 8. Embryonic Journey - Jefferson Airplane 9. Cactus Tree - Jone Mitchell 10. Ripple - Grateful Dead 11. Helplessly Hoping - Taxiride 12. No Matter What You Do - Mojave 3 13. Who Knows Where The Time Goes - Judy Collins 14. White Bird - It's A Beautiful Day 15. Follow - Richie Havens 16. He was mainly a kick-ass acoustic guitar-player, but when he sang the songs he did write lyrics to, they captivated me. His voice was lovely. Wish I didn't have to write in the past tense. Still Love You Mike, Alice Benedicte Nielsen wrote: Thanks Bob for the response to my question about the female Dylan! And thanks everyone for your warm welcome to the list! Bob says its >"unlikely to see someone called the >"male Joni". I agree! In any case, I would be interested in knowing if any of you has a favourite male singer who fascinates you in the same way as Joni Mitchell? I see a lot of references to female singers on the site so it seems that people think if you like Joni you'd like this other female singer. Last year, I was totally fascinated by the voice of a South African singer called Jim Neversink; he sings with frankness and humour and vulnerability, and his voice fascinated me in almost the same way as Joni's althugh he's not (yet I think!) as accomplished. Nick Cave singing Into My Arms has some of that effect too. I guess no two persons can touch you in the same way... It just seems that when someone asks for favourite singers I would have to ask 'male or female'? There is one song by Neversink on http://www.myspace.com/westernworld, in case you are curious. Anyway, I labelled this SJC because I guess it's a bit off the track! Best Benie (aka Ble) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Sep 2006 06:25:14 -0700 (PDT) From: Em Subject: movie music NJC saw 2 movies over the weekend where I was touched by the music. The first was called "Serching For the Wrong Eyed Jesus". http://www.searchingforthewrongeyedjesus.com/ whoa.... hugely weird. And eerie yet engaging music. The duo The Handsome Family was featured a few times. I went to iTunes and I see they have several CD's. Was wondering if any one here can recommend the best? or give an opinion as to which might be best? then yesterday I saw Bill Murray in "Broken Flowers", which I didn't realize was a Jim Jarmusch flick, til the end when I saw the credits. INTERESTING music! at first I was thinking...ok so this is instrumenatl jazz-ish sort of stuff, goes with Murray's character maybe....then I started thinking this is way funky and slightly humorous.... almost like "lounge" stuff. http://www.soundtrack.net/soundtracks/database/?id=4031 The cuts by Mulatu Astatke are really neat! They're like jazz I guess you could say, but almost perverted...such that they are almost fun, and the likes of ME even wanted to chew on them. PLus a couple of the non-jazz cuts are pretty tasty. As far as the movie, Bill Murray always makes me kinda sad in his non comedy roles. I always get the urge to tickle him and get him to go ahead and be silly. I know its in him!
