I've had stuff download within a matter of seconds, whereas other times it takes 10 minutes or more (I'm talking about files of about the same size - those zip files with Muller's Joni covers take a long time.) I also find it takes a LOOOONNNGGG time to upload stuff. It's hard to say how much is that site, how much is general internet traffic and how much is your own connectivity. I've had on-and-off problems for a few months with static on my phone line that has made internet really slow, or has caused the server to drop the connection and it's very frustrating, since I've had Bell in a number of times to try to figure out where the problem could be. I suspect the YouSendIt site is very busy (and it has a lot of other crap on it as well and I figure the more junk is on a website, the longer it takes to do anything on it). I guess that doesn't help you much, does it! Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tired of spam? Yahoo! Dontcha just love it when that happens? ; ) I didn't know you were a teacher, Lindsay. I have so much admiration and respect for and awe of teachers....such important, life-bettering work that you do, and you have to be ON all the time, no matter what. My Joni beret is off to all you teachers! Je m'abaisse devant votre grandeur. May all the teachers here -- Lindsay, Emiliano, Mike in bcn (hola, amigos!), Marianne (who had a particularly difficult year, like me, with the death of our Richards -- our dads are/were both named Richard), Laura and Richard (although you teach "aging" children -- a *little* less stressful cuz they are better behaved, no?) I've already had a phone call from Matthew complaining that Sarah is being a be-atch. She will be nice to him if she decides that she wants him to go out and get some junk food, because god forbid she should venture out on the street for that." LOL! I remember those days in my own kids' circle game...the phone calls at work. "MmmmmmAAAAAHHHHHHmmmmm!!!!!!! Chris won't let me watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! He locked the TV on ESPN. And he ate all the ice cream and he won't let Maggie and Luke out and it's HIS turn." I can just picture poor Matthew threatening, in desperation of being treated like a human being: "I'm gonna call Mom." And Sarah, with all her 18 year-old "you're-not-the-boss-of-me, just leave me alone, you brat, unless I want something from you, like junk food" attitude, nonchalantly filing her nails or painting or something. (The older one rules the roost, it seems.) And then Catherine gets the call, just to make her workday more pleasant. Kids. Ya gotta love 'em! I remember bringing this worry (about the boys fighting, when they were much younger) to our pediatrician, the coolest old dude you ever met, Dr. Breer (R.I.P.). He looked like Mr. Natural with his long beard. Anyway, I brought up this worry of mine (I worry sometimes) and he peered over his glasses at me and asked: "Were you an only child?". Nuff said. There were a few mentions on the list she was considering contributing it to other projects (film?). It's the 'recording artist' bit that has. Here's where my memory gets bad: there were a few posts that mentioned she HAS completed 2 pieces of music. (the twiddling and playing out on the rocks thing.) The mentions came up on list and scarcely drew commentary. Which was a surprise for me. Maybe someone has a better recollection??? Save me from my disconnect from reality. I don't expect these pieces of music to be put to word, recorded in studio, then released as part of a new CD. But there is the posibility her guitar tracks could find their way onto record, ala Tiger Bones. (The older one rules the > roost, it seems.) You've painted a very accurate picture. You must have kids or something ;-) The only difference is, Sarah is either putting on makeup or straightening her hair. She can be very nice and sucks up to Matthew when she wants something. Or she will resort to whining or name-calling if that doesn't work. Threats and bribery are also in the equation, as is calling in favours. And Matthew will ignore her for a while, but she makes herself hard to ignore and he is ultimately very kind-hearted, and not just a little greedy himself, so will often go out on the quest for junk food - which gets him out of the house and away from her, so I guess it works in its own weird way. I've convinced myself that it's highly unlikely that they really will kill each other, so usually it's, "Well, I'm at work and you're a good subway-ride away from me, so I'm not sure what you want me to do about it, but I know you can work it out". All this will change once we move though, because I'll only be a five-minute walk from work so I will need another excuse. It's the age! I remember, in high school, straightening my hair, and spraying Sun-In in it so it would be blonde and straight and shiny like Joni's! ("Gimme a head with hair, long beautiful hair, shining, gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen...") I have very curly brown hair, so it was an impossible dream, but I kept trying. Maybe Sarah has tried the following methods. I would either use some straightener (like hair-dye, very chemically and yucky -- not recommended), OR wrap my sopping wet hair around my head with one big curler on the top and sit under the hair-dryer for an hour. But then if it rained, it was all for naught and I would have to braid it or top it off w/ a bandana. (Remember those blue ones?) Then there is the old iron, but the contortioning is difficult (even at that young age) and you need a best friend to help you, one you trust completely to not burn you. Then in college (mid-seventies) I wore braids (one, or sometimes two) or just went with the flow...kind of like Nicolette Larson, even though that was a little before her time. Most of the guys had ponytails. Ah, what fun days! I just googled to see a picture of Nicolette, and to be sure I spelled her name correctly. "A lot of what needs to be done here will have to be done quietly, without any discussion, using sources and methods that are available to our intelligence agencies," Cheney told Americans just after 9/11. He warned the public that the government would have to operate on the "dark side." In The Dark Side, airing June 20, 2006, at 9 P.M. on PBS (check local listings), FRONTLINE tells the story of the vice president's role as the chief architect of the war on terror and his battle with Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet for control of the "dark side." I remembered that SOUVENIERS was produced by Joe Walsh. (But I was surprised to find that I remembered it CORRECTLY.) What I didn't remember was that there were so many other familiar names on that album: Henry Diltz shot the cover. Joe Lala, Russ Kunkel, and Graham Nash. Irv Azoff is credited with "direction". The copyright says 1974 so it surprised me that Walsh (who didn't join the Eagles for a while yet) already knew Randy Meisner, Don Henley, and Glenn Frey well enough to get them on backing vocals. I'm sure there are lots of experts on SoCal 70s rock. When did Walsh start playing on Eagles' records? Did he join "officially" when he put that smokin' solo on the end of "Hotel California" or was it earlier? Anyway, all of the talent wasn't wasted because Fogelberg had some great songs. Remember these lines which his wife wrote? >Here is the key to a house far away >where I used to live as a child. >They tore down the building >when I moved away >and left the key >unreconciled.
