Where usually I hear more of the soul or something from the original songwriter, it is mysterious to me how Bonnie somehow captured Joni's original essence on that one song and took it to higher place. I'm really not even much of a Bonnie fan - I think she is *incredibly* talented but she doesn't touch my heart like some others. But on that song, she just amazes me. Kakki Smurf said: "I think Bonnie's voice, or her *character*, just sounds more "real" and honest in her delivery. When Bonnie sings "I feel like I've been working overtime," I believe it on a deeper level than when Joni sings the same words. The entire song just *fits* Bonnie better overall, in my opinion, and her version hits me in a deeper place." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Jun 2006 08:19:34 EDT From: LCStanley7@aol.com Subject: Re: Bluebird Vincenzo wrote: Whole story (and photo) at www.kristianhoffman.com/ history.htm Hi Vincenzo, I had to clip off the tail of your link to get to your site and eventually find the photo. I downloaded James Taylors new song "Our Town" from the "Cars" soundtrack the other day, Love it Love it Love it, wonderfull melody and that same old heartwarming voice. I hope this is a guide to how good the next JT album is. Question: I wonder if Joni Still writes songs in her head for the vocal range she had when she was younger, If she still is, what a shame that these songs dont see the light of day. I mean maybee Im thinking out loud and daydreaming but I would listen to another singer singing these songs, If they exist. And what is this Album that is on the Barnes and Noble site. "Woodstock"??? Maybe you'd like to hear another singer singing songs that Joni wrote for that earlier voice but never recorded herself, like "Come To The Sunshine", "The Way It Is", & "Carnival In Kenora": http://cdbaby.com/cd/bigyellowtaxi3 Ignore it. It's an inferior re-recording of LOTC without Big Yellow Taxi, marketed as an import. The same applies to "Girls Of The Valley", "For Free", and some others whose titles escape me. Yet it's obvious from the marital discord between the ex-Beatle, who turns 64 tomorrow, and his estranged bride Heather Mills, 38, that all their troubles no longer seem so far away, especially as the Brit tabs scream about her trampy past. She resented his fame, thinking it cramped her modelling career. His kids resented her presence, considering her a Yoko Ono without the musical talent. McCartney, meanwhile, just seemed clueless. Witness his failure to get a prenuptial agreement, which he attributes to an excess of ardour when he and Mills tied the knot four short years ago. That mistake could cost the Beatle billionaire half his personal wealth, making his nose-whittling ex-pal Michael Jackson look like a wise businessman in comparison. Beatle Paul clearly needs a hand finding an age-appropriate spouse, one that already has enough fame to sustain her, if he doesn't want to head into his musically appropriate 65th year without someone to need him or feed him. Herewith are a few helpful suggestions for the next Mrs. McCartney: # Catherine Deneuve, 62: Still-sexy French actress, who made her name as the singing beauty of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg in 1964, the year the Beatles broke internationally. She's discreet, she's charming and she could help McCartney with the French lyrics to "Michelle" the next time he tours. # Marianne Faithfull, 59: The once-waifish singer has really let herself go in recent decades, combining cigarettes and drugs to produce a face that looks like the "before" ad for a skin-care trauma clinic. But anyone who can survive the 1960s, and a wild affair with Beatle rival Mick Jagger, has more than enough stories to keep McCartney from having any lonely nights. # Joni Mitchell, 62: She can be nuttier than a squirrel's breakfast, and claims to have given up music altogether, but at her best the Canuck artiste is McCartney's superior as a songwriter and singer. They could make an interesting couple both on and off the stage, especially since she's in need of a good bass player. # Tina Turner, 66: What's love got to do with it? She's single, she's hotter than July and she's got legs longer than Penny Lane. She could also add some much-needed soul to Paul's flagging rock 'n' roll, and she definitely wouldn't have to worry about standing in his shadow. She'd dance in it. # Yoko Ono, 73: Okay, so she's long in the tooth, she is the widow of John Lennon, and McCartney reportedly hates her guts but didn't the Beatles sing "All You Need Is Love"? Now is the time to prove it, pal, and show the world you meant it when you wrote, "We Can Work It Out." - --------------- http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1150367949292&call_pageid=968867495754&col=969483191630 - --------------- Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tired of spam? Its not the end of the world. It's not like once you leave you can never come back. I actually enjoyed the break and now I wouldn't consider it that big of a deal, leaving or staying. It is what it is. As a matter of fact, I heartily recommend taking a break. Its good to get different perspectives on things now and then, remake the map so to speak. A month ago i watched the documentry "Kurt and Courtney" - a film that tried to prove that she's behind his death, and, well, gotta say it made a lot of sense. (Did you know that her own father wrote a book about how his "beloved" daughter killed his son in law?). I think anyone who sees this film would find this whole thing VERY disturbing. There's even a website that'll "explain" how she planned the whole thing and how she managed to escape charges. www.justiceforkurt.com Got to admit though - she acted real good at that Hustler-guy movie. But I must admit that much as I commend TC for her obvious love and respect for Joni, her voice really cannot navigate the complex harmonic shifts that Joni's songs require of a singer. When she sings "Carey"'s lyric "And I miss my clean white linen and my fancy French cologne", her attempts to stay in pitch and reach an upward spiral note in that song lyric makes one think if only Joni can sing her own songs or TC should just attempt songs better suited for her voice, range, pitch. She did quite well in other songs in the album especially "Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep". Bob Muller a icrit : 12. Trish Colter/Paul Read - Carey - --------------------------------- Yahoo!
