There is certainly a political movement among transsexual (and transgendered) people to be recognized as neither male nor female, but as transsexual (or transgendered). Deconstructing and transcending the dichotomy, you know. djp ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2006 19:48:55 -0700 (PDT) From: Bryan Subject: RE: Mandy Moore digs Joni NJC From: Joseph Palis Subject: Mandy Moore digs Joni hi jonilistas-- Just read this entry in Mandy Moore's blog: " i'm totally digging my sunday evening. sitting with my step-doggie (he's in a very handsome sweater). listening to joni mitchell (ladies of the canyon). just watched 60 minutes (adore mike wallace) and about to have some sugar-free hot chocolate (sooo yummy). " the girl has taste, no? I consider myself a Mandy fan now (to my surprise actually). While her cover of Help Me was probably the weakest link on her Coverage CD, I enjoyed it overall. As an actor she is doing risky projects like Romance and Cigarettes, American Dreamz, Southland Tales (unfortunately all of these have bombed or are so obsure they may never be released in the US) and others. I agree with what you wrote about Joni and she is in a class of her own, I would go further to say that this period of music from the 70's through to the late 80's, will go down like Classical music period of the 17th to the 18th century, I was telling someone the other day that I remember listening to Good Vibrations on someone elses radio on a beach for the first time, and buying one Classic brilliant Album ( you know those things with the 12" gate fold sleeves) every month at least, you know like :- Led Zepplin, the Who Hendrix, Springsteen, ( I saw 10 gigs of Springsteens 82 River tour, and you think he is good now he was god like that year) the Beatles Abba, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, BeeGees , Fleetwood Mac ( both Bands!!), Prince, Rolling Stones, Depeche Mode, Micheal Jackson, Doors, Rod Stewart, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Jefferson starship, Santana, Little Feat, Blondie, Talking Heads, Frank Zappa , Eagles, CSN&Y, Billy Joel, Cream, Eric Clapton, Pat M etheny, Jaco Pastorious, Weather Report, Return to Forever, Bob Marley, the Police, Sade, Def Leppard, and I could go on and on and on mentioning artist after artist that had genuine TALENT !!! and Really where is all this talent now, can anyone really say that we have 2 or 3 artists that compare to the above list playing music now!!! I was listening to "Shout" by Tears for Fears today and the Production on this record is amazing, This is another thing about music today, Production has gone back to 8 track, seriously it has, most music around today dosent need Digital 32 track desks some records are barely drums guitar and bass with a mike for the singer. But I suspect something else happening, so called artists today cant be bothered about learing how to be an Digital sound engineer, or how to play Keyboards or how to pick a Guitar and even Solo on Guitar, all they do is STRUM AND STRUM, strumming is cool today. And the Lyrics, OMG like "I got up this morning and brushed my teeth and went down stairs to find a letter from my Baaby, a letter from my Baaby", or"I went down to the Beach today to find my thoughts about my Life", and there singing this to a Melody, that just goes up and down up and down, you know like anyone could write, and some of these artists are Super Stars. Some people say this is just me getting old, but really is it??? when you look at the list of artists above that were all around Playing and writing there best stuff in a 20 year period, sorry but its not me I lived through this period and am starved of buying new CD's at presant, truly we might have reached the begining of " The day the music died"-- Listen to " Another Galaxy " by Paul Simon on his new CD to listen to a beautifull song with wonderfull melody written in 2006. Paul Simon there's a name, where is the new Paul Simon ??? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2006 20:38:20 -0700 (PDT) From: Smurf Subject: I Wanna Hold Your Hindi -- NJC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5ky5ClIjL8%22 From Boing Boing: Old Bollywood cover of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" video In this youtube, a band identified as the "Indian Beatles" performs a totally rockin' version of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" in Hindi. I'm pretty sure I have this song as an MP3 somewhere, but with the video added in, it's a hundred times more awesome. Commenters on the YouTube page add more details. The song is "Tumse Hai Dil Ko" from the film "Jaanwar" -- and this: "The camera work is exceptional, the singing great, and the fact that this was just 1 year after the Beatles' appearance on the Ed Sullivan show makes this work of adaptive plagiarism all the more impressive."
