Dear Patrick and Ashara, thanks for putting this message up on the NE list, as I am way behind on my digest readings, and it can take a while before I manage to catch up. I would say that, while I'm always more keen to meet up in places where I haven't been yet (still dreaming of New Orleans, for instance), this time of the year is indeed pretty good for me. So the answer is yes, chances of me attending are good. All the best, Lieve. - -----Original Message----- From: NortheastJonifest@yahoogroups.com [mailto:NortheastJonifest@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of patrick leader Sent: 31 May 2006 04:00 To: AsharaJM@aol.com; joni@smoe.org Cc: NortheastJonifest@yahoogroups. com; Kay Ashley Subject: [NortheastJonifest] RE: Jonifest? and maybe music in new york? folks on the northeast list, ashara's exploring the possibility of another jonifest in march/april 07 and needs to hear about the level of support by friday, june 2. see her messages below mine. i would dearly love to see another jonifest at full moon. many people who came into new york for the joni carnegie tribute got a sense of what it would be to hang together for longer, three or four days, talking, making music etc. there is nothing quite like a jonifest, and full moon is just a wonderful place to gather. i'd say, if you've always wanted to go, tell ashara and start making plans. bring your partner or family. musician or not. if we start working on it now, perhaps we can arrange to have a musician performance evening in new york city, at the rockwood, around this event (wednesday, march 28, 07). i will pledge, right here and now, to invite at least two or three people to sleep at my apartment for a couple of days around a jonifest. it's very cheap to get to full moon, from new york, whether by bus or rented jalopy. only 10 months to go!!! patrick np - comedy central, chapelle show rerun ++++++++++++ message 1 from ashara Because of the interest, I did call Full Moon last week and have a date from them, and I need to let them know by Friday if we want it or not. I really don't want to have conflicting Jonifests happening at or near the same time, because I feel it is much more important to have as many people as possible in one place, instead of people having to decide about their time and money and have a divided group, some in one place, some in another, and perhaps not enough in either to make it happen. The date that Full Moon is holding for us is Thursday, March 29 through Monday April 1, 2007. If you all are serious about Full Moon, and think you can make it happen for you for those dates, I promise to make it happen for everyone. What say you? For those of you who have never been, I found my first fest very uplifting - both in terms of the music, and in the spirit of comraderie - and in getting to meet so many JMDLers for the first time. (I do miss the shrimpies tho) Now that performances are evenings, the days are freed up for hiking, workshops, hanging out, sightseeing, sleeping, whatever. Even more than the music, I just enjoy the conversation (about Joni and anything, much like on the list) and getting to know people better. So just to emphasize - it's NOT a meeting of musicians by any means, and everyone is given the opportunity to participate in whatever they're comfortable with. The 42-year-old former British soldier left a wife, an 18-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter. Paul Douglas, the cameraman, was a slab of a man with a great smile and gentle charm, a whiz of a cook who lived in London, where he liked to ride his motorcycle and cruise in an old Bentley that he'd restored himself. The 48-year-old left a wife, two daughters, three grandchildren and a mother. Several teams of doctors have been fighting to save the life, and the legs, of Kimberly Dozier, the CBS correspondent who was hurt by the roadside bomb. The single 39-year-old was a headlong, generous reporter who had spent years covering Iraq and Afghanistan. "People rarely think of a woman as pretty as Kimberly as being strong," Dan Rather blogged on the CBS Web site. "She is." Mr. Rather recalled that she had kept a kayak in her room in Baghdad, hoping she could someday persuade the military to let her row on the Tigris, near where she almost died while embedded with the American infantry, reporting a story about what the troops were doing on Memorial Day. Doctors said that her heart had stopped beating and her blood pressure had plummeted. But somehow, with the help of blood donations from those in the combat hospital, they stabilized her. (Soldiers dragged Mr. Douglas away from the burning vehicle and put a tourniquet on one of his legs that had been blasted off, but it was too late to save him.) The administration and some right-wing commentators have blamed the press for not reporting positive news in Iraq. The radio host Laura Ingraham has suggested that the press is "invested in America's defeat" and has mocked TV journalists for "reporting from hotel balconies about the latest I.E.D.'s going off." Conservative chatterers have parroted President Bush's complaint that "people resuming their normal lives will never be as dramatic as the footage of an I.E.D. explosion." But now two network personalities Ms. Dozier and Bob Woodruff have been severely injured by roadside bombs while embedded with the military, trying to do the sort of stories the administration wants. "One thing I don't want to hear anymore," Steve Capus, the president of NBC News, told The Times's Bill Carter, "is people like Laura Ingraham spewing about us not leaving our balconies in the Green Zone to cover what's really happening in Iraq." Even with constricted coverage, the tally of journalists killed in Iraq is now 71, more than the number killed in Vietnam or World War II. (This war is now six months short of the United States involvement in World War II, but at least then we knew we were winning by this point.) Shaken by the CBS losses, networks were reassessing how to cover a story with such excruciating risks. Journalists in Iraq are hamstrung in Iraq just as the troops are, struggling, with ever greater frustration and higher costs, to do the job they were sent in to do. As the CBS war correspondent Lara Logan told CNN recently, American officials often reject her requests for optimistic stories, saying: "Oh, sorry, we can't take you to that school project, because if you put that on TV, they're going to be attacked, the teachers are going to be killed, the children might be the victims of attack. Oh, sorry, we can't show this reconstruction project because then that's going to expose it to sabotage." An American soldier was killed in the blast that killed the CBS cameraman and soundman and injured Ms. Dozier. But more than a day after we knew everything about the CBS victims, no information had been released about him. There is a tragic anonymity about this war. Kids die but we don't know who they are, other than their names, which turn up in small print. They do not touch everyone's lives because, without a draft, they are not drawn from every part of American society. The administration tries to play down any sense of individual loss; the president has not attended a single funeral, and the government banned pictures of their returning coffins. The Iraqi civilians who die don't even get their names in the small print. Journalists die and we know who they are. We know they liked to cook and play Scrabble. But we don't know who killed them, and their killers will never be brought to justice. The enemy has no face, just a finger on a detonator. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 May 2006 22:26:17 EDT From: PassScribe@aol.com Subject: Re: Jonifest in the Spring Hi, all, I'm glad I keep making time to check this list from time to time or I'd miss important stuff like the possibility of another Jonifest at Full Moon. I'd love to go, and March 29-April 1st seems fine for me, but I'd much rather it was in warmer weather. Regardless, that wouldn't stop me from attending. At least it wouldn't conflict with summer vacation plans I'm already working on. Kenny B ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Jun 2006 02:28:36 +0000 From: "Patti Parlette" Subject: njc, CSNY tickets available NOW Concert ticket alert! Concert ticket alert! SHORT VERSION: go here for tix: http://csny.tickets.musictoday.com/CSNY/calendar.aspx Apparently tix for all concert venues are now on sale? Not completely sure, but the ones that I have been waiting for are. LONG VERSION: Travelling in my vehicle tonight, I took the Neil CD out for a respite and put on the (you turn me on I'm a) radio. And there was Neil AGAIN, singing "Keep on Rockin' in the Free World". (Do my ears deceive me?) Turns out it was a commercial for the CSNY concert in my backyard (Mohegan Sun Arena in CT) that I've been waiting for. We were supposed to get email alerts from their website when tix are going on sale for different venues, but lately I haven't gotten any. So I got home and turned on my computer and checked Mohegan Sun's website to see that tix go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. And look, there's a Joni mention in the concert description at Mohegansun.com: Ticket Pricing: $201, $146, $96 Tickets on sale June 3rd. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young first gained notice as an integral part of Woodstock in August of 1969, and later recorded the music festival's signature song written by Joni Mitchell. Albums such as Dij` Vu and Four Way Street made them a major musical force. In the years following, the various members have pursued their own musical paths, both together and separately. This summer's concert is a rare chance to find all four members on the same stage, making the music that helped to define an era. The quartet's hits have included "Ohio," "Teach Your Children," and "Our House." Please Note: The first day an event is on sale, the Box Office may only accept Player's Club points as a method of payment. All customers who wish to use other forms of payments may log onto ticketmaster.com, call ticketmaster at 860.886.0070 or visit their local ticketmaster outlet. - ------ Well, I may be a rambler (talker), but I'm not a gambler, so I don't have any "Player's Club" points. I wondered about the CSNY website alerts that I haven't been getting, so Ed and I checked their site and lo and behold.....tix are available. Right now! We got SECTION ONE, ROW N. Woooo hoooo! We are going to be right up there! With all FOUR of them! Oh, my heart be still. If anyone else has been waiting for email notification about CSNY tix, consider this it. There must be some glitch in their system. Angela, I think you said you like them too, no? They are playing in CO (Red Rock?), too. Is that near you? Randy Remote, I know you have tix already for somewhere in CA. (Hey, isn't your gig with Asleep at the Wheel coming up real soon? I'll be driving my "Space Buggy" to CSNYIMBY in August, beating all those meteorites!). Is anyone else going to see them? Trying to contain my excitement, with love to all, Patti P. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 May 2006 23:04:37 -0400 From: "Jim L'Hommedieu, Lama" Subject: Dad, where do barrels of oil come from? njc I went poking around on a US gov't site and found some figures.
