Since I was raised as a Catholic, there was a lot of, "That's a sin!" "That's a mortal sin!" "That's only a venial sin!" but nuttin' 'bout no rapture. Is that in the Bible somewhere? (I'm being serious. I've seen too many Simpsons' episodes that deal with it, but I don't really get it!) Where do they get the idea the earth is 6000 yrs old? Catherine, you'll have to ask a religious person here (and I ain't one). Funny thing is, back when I *tried* to be a religious person (when I was about 16) and was hanging out with Catholics, it was they who clued me in on the Rapture. But then a lot of them were heading toward being Pentacostal, so who knows? Anyhoo, I think the whole thing can be found in Revelations somewhere, but again ... you'll have to ask a religious person (and I ain't one). If anyone else missed digest #182, it's at: http://www.smoe.org/lists/joni/v2006.n182 It seems like I'm missing about one per week lately. Is this happening to anyone else? Jim PS, this is an old one. It's so old, I first heard Howey Mandel tell it... When he had hair. "Two guys walk into a bar... Which is pretty stupid, because... ya know, you'd think the second guy would have noticed." ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 May 2006 22:02:51 -0400 From: "Jim L'Hommedieu, Lama" Subject: Springsteen again, njc CMT calls the new one "Bruce Springsteen's 21st album". Can that be right? Are they counting all of those boots when Columbia wouldn't pay him? heh heh If he really has put out 21 titles, he's getting close to 27. "I'm always running behind the times" in digest reading yet again -- don't you HATE that? I'm just popping in to share an email I received today. I had written to a friend about the armload of bright balloons I bought for Michael's graduation. Ray knows some Joni, but he needs a lot more jonifying, imo. Look at this, though (pasted below)....he's coming along! I thought the lyrics he sent were worth sharing. There's even some German here for Moni! Liebe grusse, Patti P., who firmly believes that if more Americans learned about other languages and cultures, it would help the cause (which, of course, is world peace). Voila: >Last evening I came home with "an >armload of bright balloons" What, no "Love or Money"? I made a different (anti-war, even ) connection with balloons. Here's one for you, and I'll give you the lyrics, too. There was an American version (not quite a translation), "99 Red Balloons", but the imagery isn't as powerful. You and I in a little toy shop Buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got. Set them free at the break of dawn 'Til one by one, they were gone. Back at base, bugs in the software Flash the message, Something's out there. Floating in the summer sky. 99 red balloons go by. 99 red balloons. floating in the summer sky. Panic bells, it's red alert. There's something here from somewhere else. The war machine springs to life. Opens up one eager eye. Focusing it on the sky. Where 99 red balloons go by. 99 Decision Street. 99 ministers meet. To worry, worry, super-scurry. Call the troops out in a hurry. This is what we've waited for. This is it boys, this is war. The president is on the line As 99 red balloons go by. 99 Knights of the air Ride super-high-tech jet fighters Everyone's a superhero. Everyone's a Captain Kirk. With orders to identify. To clarify and classify. Scramble in the summer sky. As 99 red balloons go by. 99 dreams I have had. In every one a red balloon. It's all over and I'm standing pretty. In this dust that was a city. If I could find a souvenir. Just to prove the world was here. And here is a red balloon I think of you and let it go. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 May 2006 00:26:27 -0400 From: "Cassy" Subject: Re: Springsteen again, njc Let's see: Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.
