My point was that refering to that particular act of genocide doesn't fit in with the rest of the words of the song, but 'vale of tears' does. When I started going to Winterland it was $5.50 for up to 4 bands. One time it was a Stills/Manasas show and Crosby & Nash showed up. It was a two night gig, and we heard about it and caught them the second night, playing acoustic. It was great....I've seen the boys a couple of times since but never with Young.... now I've just plunked down the big bucks for CSN&Y at Concord. Part of the money thing is that the big acts know that scalpers are going to resell their tickets for way more than face value, so they decided to get a piece of the action. I think the Eagles were the first to break the $100 mark. Some artists like Tom Petty and Dave Matthews have resisted the trend, and kept their prices reasonable. Nobody has the time to take a Hawaiian vacation, so why not blow 500 bucks on a concert? RR ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 May 2006 23:55:06 -0600 From: Robert Procyk Subject: Joni thingy at the Mendel Hi Guys, Just got back from the Mendel yesterday - I was there with a konked out digital camera and three VERY tired kids, but it was still a great experience. I got some pics from the remaining film on my normal camera which I just emailed to a few listas (if I figured out how to actually send the frigging things from my laptop - long story, so Catherine, Bob, Ashara, and Jimmy, lemme know if they don't show up, and if they do, feel free to share with whoever). I also took notes but it was a quick trip, so I didn't get to spend as long as I would have liked. However, I'll be back in Saskatoon a week from Friday, so I will go back without the kids and take more time. As it was, my kids were running.. and running.. and running... and I was afraid the stern looking security woman would kick our asses out of there. Anyway, highlights - pics of Joni as a child, report cards, where her grade 4 teacher in North Battleford said "Joan's work is well above average. She has the gift of interpretation. Her deportment, however, should be improved upon, although of late she has been a good girl". Then, a later report card gave our Joan "Fair" in deportment. Her grade 6 report card said "Joan should pay more attention to other subjects than art." There were also her high school report cards, but I didn't have a chance to write down the grades. There was a funny "We'd like to See" page from her high school where it said "We'd like to see.... Joan Anderson on time for school." It also made me laugh to see Joni was awarded a "Temperence Certificate" from the Canadian Women's Christian Temperence Union and given to her at the North Battleford United Church Sunday School. I also took a picture of, and wrote down, a sweet poem she wrote for her dad's birthday: Ode to my Father You aren't any Rock Hudson For whom the belles all toil Sometimes your nervous driving makes mom and me just boil You don't remember birthdays or anniversaries you criticize your daughter "no paint, less powder, please!" Although your humor is corny We bear it, mom and I Some fathers never crack a joke. I must admit you try. But if I had to choose a dad, I wouldn't hesitate. Your good points outweigh bad ones In short, I think your [sic] great! Happy Birthday To a Swell Pop. Anyway, I really liked that one. There was also this smartass "How to paint like a modernist painter" thing she wrote, but I didn't get to write it down. Ummm, what else... there was a bunch of cool childhood drawings, especially the pic of the painter (I got a good shot of it). There was also the whole Bambi spread, of the fire, and those sorta disturbed me - she was obsessed with the scene, I guess, and the Mendel had it playing over and over next to the pics. Ummmm, I can't even think of what else. Some cool doodling on an exercise book, pics of her sweet 16, the prom dress (got a pic of me with my arm around the dress which was kinda funny), prom pics.... damn, I can't rightly think right now, but I wanted to post this before I forgot, since I probably won't get to do it for a couple days (been in stoon since the weekend and I don't wanna even think of how crazy work will be tomorrow). Anyway, as I said, I will try to pop in on the 12th and perhaps bring my video c am (I don't know if we are even supposed to take pics in there, but the stern woman didn' t say anything). Anyway, I'll write more as I think of it, and will be back before it's gone, hopefully to video the thing for y'all. Yep, it sure it easy to believe that when it's not your son or daughter in that coffin. Easy to say this is a "just" war. The simplicity of that attitude boggles the mind and sickens the stomach.
