But now I work with the assumption that everyone is doing the best they can, given their point of view. And everyone's viewpoint is accurate, from their point of view. Some people have a larger experience from which their viewpoint springs. But that doesn't necessarily mean greater accuracy. I would defend my point of view at considerable risk, but I also know if you take it and three cow paddies, you might be able to grow a dandelion. Part of Joni's genius is that she was the ultimate pop with cute songs like "paved paradise", but also profound from my "cultivated" point of view. Some would say that I'm only rehashing some Buddhist adage that everyone is reborn into some level of development. I think it's humility before the unsolvable mystery of the interaction of humanity with itself and the universe. But no, I despise Brittany. Don't think she's even pretty. But if you take all her clothes off, pour a waterfall on her, and shake her booty, she is pretty sexy. Someone has to be the pop sex queen for every generation. Tired of spam? Yahoo! It takes political questions out of the realm of good and evil and into the realm of figuring out why someone is doing something. George Bush mass killing Iraqi's is horrible to me, but he's not evil, just doing some policy that I think opposes goals I have. My work should be to figure out exactly why he's doing it, and determind ways and means to contradict his reasoning. Not to start calling everyone Darth Vader crooks as is the apparent policy of Democrats these days. As Joni said: "when I thought life had some meaning, and I thought I had some choice. I made some value judgments in a self important voice. Then absurdity, came over me, and I longed to lose control. But all I ever wanted, was to come in from the cold.: Tired of spam? Yahoo! If someone is a top 20 songwriter with only 11 songs or so available to the public then those ought to be some spectacular songs. Mindy Smith may be a talent to watch, but they've got Joni, Dylan, Neil Young, Springsteen, Paul Simon, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, John Prine, James Taylor Carole King, Richard Thompson, Randy Newman, and, and, and . . . I mean--let's get real, _Paste_. Does anyone here get and read this mag? Is it worth 50 bucks for 16 issues. I like _No Depression_ well enough that I always read it and renew and have found out about some artists I might never have known without it. Because I'm one of those left-wing academic types (though sadly not well-known enough to have made David Horowitz's new blacklist), I pay for Salon.com premium. One of the perks was a free _Rolling Stone_ subscription for awhile. Talk about fishwrap! That's turned into one sorry rag. Not that I have any strong opinions or anything. It was wonderful to get to hang out with Steve and Michele who are real troopers when it comes to guerilla showcasing. They were everywhere. My friend Jerome from Amtrak fame was my travel buddy and we drove up last Thursday night and had a wonderful time together. He snores like a bull frog so it made me feel like I was right at home with some of my other travel buddies. We are working on a plan to offer singer songwriter folks to be able to ride the Amtrak rails at a special price (working name for this pass are No Gas Pass lol) to reduce expenses and facilitate the whole touring process. If anyone has any thoughts or ideas on the subject please write to me. The idea is that it would be a pass that would be good for a certain amount of time and get on and off space available to be able to tour around. We are also talking about outfitting the bar car with a small audio set up to facilitate showcases along the way. Hooking up with the Guthrie family and friends was so special and a lot like a homecoming. They have become part of my family and I know I have made friends for life. Arlo told me to we are on the rails again next December and I am holding Dec 4 as a departure date. Details will be forthcoming. Lots of people want to sign on for the next one too. Maybe we can get some JMDL artists on the bill!! Happy "Craig Jenkins" The Man came out and hung out with us and we had cocktails and conversation and a lot of laughs. It was really nice of him to come out to the Joni Tribute hosted by Market Monkeys. I played with Jack and a lady by the name of Sonia who was a lot of fun. I had met her this past January at the NAMM show at the Audix Microphone booth. She really loved my Parker and the VG-8. I have a feeling our paths will cross again. I hope you guys get to hear her as well. I think she is primed to come to a real Joni Fest. Wink wink! One of the highlights of the trip for me was meeting Eric Lowen of Lowen and Navarro. Their album "Broken Moon" is very high on my best albums of all time. I was hanging out in some of the guerrilla showcase rooms with my pals the Burns Sisters and they introduced us. He is such a nice guy and we had a lot of fun talking and singing. The sad part is that Eric is suffering from ALS and is not doing well at all. It is going to force him to stop touring soon. They played a concert for the alliance and it was just stellar. I has such a good time and spent quite a bit of time sobbing quietly from joy and sadness. There were so many amazing singer songwriters there and you have already heard from the other posters about Judy Collins and Chuck Mitchell. John Gorka was one of the highlights for me as well and Jack almost peed himself cause he loves him so much. He got to talk to him for awhile after I prodded him into it. Jack played his showcases and did very well. Folk Uke and Sarah Lee and Johnny showcased a lot and we went to them all to enjoy their music again. Sarah Lee and Johnny were suppose to leave back to Boston on Sunday but could not cause of the bad storm there so we were able to have them for the reprise of the City of New Orleans Tour Show on Monday night. Folk Alliance is going to be in Memphis next year and I encourage you to participate if at all possible. Anyways I am still damaged from last nights late show at Tips. The recording came out great and we have booked to more sessions with Putomayo on March 24 and April 26 both at Tips. Hope some of you got to peek in on the ting. I just got the DVD's from Tips from both nights there with the Arlo tour. What a treat. Have a wonderful week everyone!
