Let me echo his praise of John Flynn. He's both very insightful and VERY funny - the song referred to is "Minnie Lou", and is about the bare-breasted statue that John Ashcroft had "decently draped" (for $8,000 of our dollars) to make a more appropriate back drop for his press conferences. The punch line is a killer. :) *************************************************** Steve Dulson Costa Mesa CA tinkersown@comcast.net "The Living Tradition Concert Series" www.thelivingtradition.org "Folk Alliance Region - West" www.far-west.org ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Dec 2005 10:02:16 -0800 (PST) From: Em Subject: Re: Seating at CH me and NY friend Teresa are in dress circle "DD" (how appropriate, lol) seats 105 and 106 :) Em - --- PassScribe@aol.com wrote: > In a message dated 12/25/05 3:07:19 AM, > owner-onlyjoni-digest@smoe.org > writes: > > > > Hi, Marianne, > > We (my wife & I) will be in Dress Circle row GG, seats 111 & > 112. I'm doing that now, though, and the first thing I'm playing is Elements by Francine Allen. I would consider it of the Women's Folk genre (if that category doesn't exist, I'm coining it now), and Francine is quite good of voice, lyrics, and guitar talent. Anyway, one of the owners of Rose Street House of Music is *Irina Rivkin*, who won the OutMusic Award for OutSong Of The Year in 2003 ("Ya Eyo Lublu"). Irina has shared the stage with Rose Polenzani (who I saw a couple of years ago in Vienna, VA, and she IS great), Laura Love, and others. Irina's recording catalog includes CDs "Making Waves" and "Upwelling." Just figured I'd do my part to promote some independent artists. If I run into more music that is outstanding -- or Joni covers, for that matter : ) -- I'll pass it along. Now (that I've interrupted myself to do laundry, vacuum, feed turtles, gab on the phone and pour another cup of coffee), listening to "Upwelling" and finding it to be REALLY good ... you might want to give this a listen ... http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/irinarivkin ...
