I've also got tickets in Row E Seats 10-12 on the right side so I'll be sitting near you Bree and across the aisle from you Julius. It will be great to have a JMDL gathering as well. Yippee! Also wanted to let you know that I noticed another concert at Carnegie Hall just 2 days later. DANIEL LANOIS will be performing and his drummer is BRIAN BLADE! Tickets are $30-$35. That might be another thing to do. He'll also be showing a film. Wonder if JONI will stay in New York to see this show. Some new exciting Joni news, finally. Don't have time to write more right now. Love to all. (listen to it with Bob's voice, please) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Dec 2005 13:29:09 +1100 From: Mark-Leon Thorne Subject: Audio interview Hi folks! As I mentioned in a previous post, I had an old videotape of Joni material recorded onto DVD and discovered there was an interview on it. It is from the Today show on the Nine Network from 1988. Joni's only tour of Australia. She was also promoting the release of the album, Chalk Mark In A Rain Storm. I have been trying to extract the video but, have been unable to due to my lack of hard drive space. In the meantime, I have managed to record the audio. It is only 4 minutes long but it is interspersed with some live performing of Number One. The interview is introduced by the original co-host of the Today show, Liz Hayes who is now a reporter for 60 Minutes. I have to say, I feel a little cultural cringe at the ignorance of the interviewer. The questions are lame but Joni saves it with some candour and extrapolation. I did edit out the outro by the other co-host, George Negus who describes Joni as a "cult singer" (grrrrrr!). Continuing on from my last post, whilst watching the Joni material I had recorded onto DVD, I discovered another hidden interview. This is from the same promo tour for Chalk Mark In A Rain Storm but is much longer and way better. It is 25 minutes long so, there is much more to it. This interview is from a popular music show from 1988 called, Rock Arena on SBS. Unfortunately the show no longer exists but it was a highly intelligent format of analysis, interviews and music clips. It focussed on a variety of styles from various parts of the world as well as popular music. It was shown on SBS which is Australia's multicultural television network and hosted by a highly respected music journalist whose name escapes me (do any of the Aussies remember the name of the Rock Arena host?) so, this interview has slightly more intelligent questions than the Today show did. The reference to taking place in Greece just refers to the set. A picture of a Greek seaside villa is behind them during the interview.
