So I wanted to inform you there are a couple of amazing downloads on dimeadozen: 2 separate jams at Club Gig in NYC from 91 listed under "Fagen & Friends". The super-band consists of Donald Fagen, Pat Metheny (not playing jazz at all) and Rick Danko on bass (from the Band). Check it out. As always, I'll seed till the cows come home. Morning Everyone, Thanks to everyone for welcoming me into the fold both on and offlist. I was blown away by the warm responses. What a wonderful community we have here -- but I usually find when someone's a big fan of Joni's, they're friends of spirit. In response to the "it stays pretty green" question, I definitely vote rather. Pretty green is just a more informal way to say it stays fairly green and Joni was ambivalent about staying in the first place. As far as winning new listeners over....I dunno...some will apparently never get it! I couldn't believe it a few months ago on vacation when a friend of mine actually asked me to REMOVE Miles of Aisles from the car stereo...grrrrrrrrrrrr.... I couldn't believe it! Some music we like in common, and some we differ on, but we are patient and listen...but I couldn't BELIEVE she asked me to take it off. I did it, cuz I am non confrontational, lol.... but really, the noiv. Anyway, are you going to try some more Joni on your same friend? You think maybe Court & Spark might be a bit more melodic for him? Anyway, maybe some day he'll "get it". I'd only heard Hejira maybe twice, wayyyyyyyyyy back, and never was truly smitten by it til I joined this list and was intrigued by everyone's great enthusiasm, so, who knows... :) Em - --- A Friend Of Spirit wrote: > Morning Everyone, > Thanks to everyone for welcoming me into the fold both on and > offlist. Can you name a reference? I do know that Joni has little patience for up and coming singers who name her as a influence but fail to meet her standards. Jewel is one that comes to mind. Joni is quite a curmudgeon in her 60's but that is part of her charm. I don't know about Joni's hair turning white, but given her age it wouldn't be surprising. Yes she has put on weight and her face shows the toll of time but she carries it well and as far as I'm concerned she's as beautiful as ever. When she smiles its like the young Joni hamming it up with the LA Express or CSNY. What I also love about the new "grumpy" old Joni - when she gives interviews nowadays on video or in print her insight (sarcastic remarks and all) and intellect just floors me. She's done so much reading through the years (especially on philosophy), she's come a long way from that girl on Miles of Aisles relating that goofy story about why no one ever told Rembrandt to "... paint another starry night, man.
