Your point about integration is valid, and I accept it. Here in Spain we haven't yet had serious disturbances and the integration is probably less 'solid' than in France, or the UK. I'm glad that I had the chance to meet him and it was clearly evident even in the brief meetings I had with him that he loved you very much and appreciated all that you did for him. Being a parent can be so scary...when they're little, you think if you can just keep them away from electrical sockets, cleaning products and falling and bumping their heads you'll be out of the woods. But of course, as they grow and mature there are always new dangers in the world to give us those sleepless nights. I know that there's nothing I can say to help, but please know that this news is heartbreaking to me - I try not to think about how I'd react if something happened to Nate, I'm not sure I could deal with it. Know that won't always hurt as bad as you hurt right now. And know that you have a community here that loves you and cares about you. I'm glad to hear that you're playing the guitar again, that will be good therapy to help you deal with your loss. Hope you can stay with us and that soon we'll have lots of things to "Whoo-Hoo" (Catgirl trademark) about. All Peace to you, Bob - --------------------------------- Yahoo! I may not agree with either or both of you on various occasions, but in this case you've both responded with respect for each other (at least the posts I've seen.) One can never ask any more than that. Oddly enough, I thought of my Joni friends around the world the other night, and of course thought of both of you. And WHERE'S WALLY K?????? Now, to Brian: If you want private discussions, please contact people privately instead baiting 800 people for a response on contentious subjects. Speaking solely for myself, I don't care to be manipulated. I recall you standing in my dining room, trying to entice me into a debate about gun ownership. I put you off then, as I will now, except to say that it was only as a courtesy to my friend Mags that I didn't boot you out of my home then. You needn't bother to email me. You're not welcome in my in box any more than in my home precisely because of the rude behvcior you exhibited that day, which I see echoed on this list. My apologies to all 798 of you who proabably don't care to read this sort of thing. Please feel free to ignore. It was the last show of this leg of Thompson's tour, and he seemed very appreciative of the response he got from the Handlebar crowd. Eliza Gilkyson opened, and she was just fine but nothing special. She had a great rapport with the audience (many of which were there for her and not Richard) and a great presence. Her playing was OK and from what I could tell her strengths were primarily as a lyricist, but her set was very short, 6-7 songs so I guess it's not really fair to pass a lot of judgement. But she got a nice response from the audience, especially when she played "Man O' God", an anti Bush number. Richard & Danny Thompson were up next, and once again Richard was just amazing, The last time I saw him he was solo, and the addition of Danny Thompson on acoustic/stand-up bass not only gave a new dimension to the sound but gave Richard a foil to bounce some musical ideas off of as well as stage banter. And Danny had a couple of really great solos; he is a consummate player just like Richard. I'm not a guitar player so I suppose I can't truly appreciate the quality and technicality of what he does, but I've never seen anyone play the entire fretboard of an acoustic guitar the way that he does, so effortlesly and cleanly. And he makes it look so easy. And his voice is so strong and clear as well - it shows little to no deterioration from where it was decades ago, or so it seems. I don't know the names of everything he played, but some of the highlights were "Crawl Back Under My Stone", "1952 Vincent Black Lightning", "Wall of Death", "Al Bowlly's In Heaven", and a hilarious song "I Got The Hots for the Smarts" about how he is easily seduced by intelligent women. Besides Richard being a master at playing a guitar, he's also a master of playing an audience. He's incredibly warm and has the ability to converse with an audience and stay in control with professionlism and great humor. Of course, when he asked for requests, it took about 5 seconds for someone to holler "Free Bird", to which he stopped and asked himself "....let's see...is that one of mine?" He also compared Greenville audiences yelling "Yee-Hah" to British audiences saying "Quite Nice", so the rest of the nice we were shouting out "quite nice". He has that gift to interject spontanaiety into his shows without losing his stride. He seemed to really appreciate the response and several standing O's he and Danny got from the Greenville crowd. He played two encores and we left feeling like we got our money's worth and then some. Can't wait to see him again.
