I can only have one bumper sticker at a time in my store, so put in your orders for the SIQUOMB stickers and I'll make a DJRDriver sticker in a couple of weeks. 2. Joni Mitchell signature Can't do this because it's under copyright and it has appeared on published materials. 3. Window Decals Nice idea, I'll look into it. Here's a sample of Lynn performing Dawntreader...she's a real Joni fan that gets it, her repertoire includes Joni obscurities like Borderline, Not To Blame, Ethiopia as well as all of the usual suspects. It happened to me once, but no one was in the house at the time, and I think it would be scarier if you were there when they broke in. Between the fact of their breaking in at such a time, with people in the house, and the weird stuff they did take, it sounds like it could have been kids on a dare or something. My sister had people walk into their house either very late at night or very early in the morning (they hadn't locked the doors) and steal dumb things like cigarettes, so she was pretty sure it was kids. Still, normal people don't do things like that and it makes you feel not safe. Plus, it's just plain rude to go through people's things and dump things on the floor. I don't even like going through the papers on someone's desk at work if they're away and I'm looking for something, so trying to get inside the mind of someone that would take or destroy other people's things just isn't a possibility for me. I hope they catch them, but unfortunately they probably won't. On the other hand, they probably won't be back. The article did make a compelling case for the idea that I'm missing something with Dylan, but Lord knows I've tried. As far as NYC goes, I can't. I spent 4 years living in Manhattan in the early 90s, and I'm not allowed back. (RIMSHOT) Actually, I'm still recovering from my accident from nearly two damn months ago, and I'd rather visit NYC when I have the use of all my various limbs and appendages. Plus, with Paz there and all, it'd only be a matter of time before I was pinned in some corner and violated. And now that I don't drink anymore, the guilt alone from that encounter would destroy me. I wish you all a great time. XO, - --Smurf __________________________________ Yahoo! It's north of Bloor on the west side, but I can't remember the address. A huge sprawling stone house, it still stands. To find the exact house number, check out some of the Reunion stories from the Toronto papers in the jmdl archives. A fellow named Duke Redbird has memories of meeting Joni in that house. The neighbourhood is still intact. The apartments above By the Way Cafe, northwest corner of Bloor and Brunswick. I'm told Joni used to live there. Used to be a Lick 'n' Chicken, then turned into a cafe, but for legal reasons, the sign had to stay and remained there for years. That sign I believe has now gone. Simpson's department store, where Joni sold ladies' coats and wore her hair in a bun. Now called The Bay, at Queen and Bay streets. Beautiful architecture. (Sidebar: Joni states in interviews that she worked at Simpson's-Sears, but that was strictly a catalogue warehouse in the 1960s.) The Riverboat space I believe is still there, at least the last time I looked. It's on the north side of Yorkville, just east of Avenue Road, and is now some kind of sports memorabilia store. You had to go down a few steps to get to the door. There's a Starbucks across the street (there always is!). The Penny Farthing, where Joni met Chuck, is further east along Yorkville, but definitely is gone now. You might want to stroll around the streets north of Yorkville (Hazelton Ave etc.) to get a feel for the neighbourhood, which, though now very expensive, is still pretty much intact. The Bohemian Embassy, on St Nicholas Street (more like a laneway), east side, south of St. Joseph Street. These old buildings still stand, but I can't recall which one housed the BE. High Park, where Chuck and Joni visited on one or more occasions. None of the TV studios where she recorded for the CBC still stands. You could go to MuchMusic's studios on Queen St. West at John to see the studio where she recorded the Intimate and Interactive in 1994. You can see into the studio from the street. And don't forget Toronto Islands, site of the Mariposa Folk Festival starting in 1968. See the little lagoons where Joni and James paddled around during the 1970 festival. It's a wonderful little community. That's about all I can remember off the top of my head.
