Not to mention the dumb design ideas some of them (whoever is responsible for the design) come up with. I've seen lyrics spread out across the entire width of a piece of paper that you unfold like a map, so that you end up with something maybe 24" wide, with the lyrics just spread out across it without any line breaks; or lyrics printed IN A CIRCLE!; or lyrics printed in colours that are impossible to read; or where the background colour clashes with the type used for the lyrics; or just very stupid artwork that takes up the entire package but adds no needed info, such as the song lyrics, the performers' names and so on. I think I could do without the endless thanking of this one and that one. It's great to thank those who helped you out but some of them get into these huge lists of people (including god) that they're thanking and that takes up half the print area - and the more people you thank individually, of course, the greater likelihood of leaving someone out. And I still hate all that plastic. - --- cindy vickery wrote: > i can't imagine not having my jewel cases. > is that an age thing, too, do you think? are those > of us from the album era (bob, you can't vote!) more > attached to the packaging than those young > whipper-snappers who grew up with napster, etc? > > c, thinking out loud > > Em wrote: > I'm almost just thinking of going ahead and building > or buying wall mounted CD racks and going ahead and > keeping them in the jewel cases. > :) > Em Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- __________________________________________________________ Find your next car at http://autos.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Sep 2005 16:31:42 +0100 From: Lucy Hone Subject: Subject: RE: DYLAN: MONDAY and TUESDAY NIGHTS, njc The Dylan thing is being shown on BBC2 tonight and Tomorrow.. As for the order, I've never been into alphabetical one: I'm with Ron in it: genres loosely understood... or some fancy order: old jazz, vocal jazz, SSongwriters (that's the most difficult) mainly acoustic from the 60s, 70s, etc, Asian, Italian, etc music... it's not a real order, but I get to find what I'm looking for... although sometimes it's the same as Ron searching for Jim Croce or something like that. Okay, honestly Em ... everything's still in jewel cases or covers, and some of those are in shelves, more or less in alphabetical order. The others are in stacks in a cabinet next to the stereo. There is no reason to keep the jewel cases/covers; I need to remove the inserts and file them in a shoebox or something (or maybe in the same shelves) for reference. What I like about that CD player is that I rarely have to remove or rearrange a CD. Once it's placed and programmed, that's it. You can search by artist, and that's all I really need. I have a few thousand of the little bastards and while I have been fighting the whole thing on many levels for years (you know the wife calling my cd area the altar; the space thing in general; the damn things break etc etc). Finally I have loaded most of my cd's onto a hard drive and use iTunes to organize them into albums with info and art and all. I upload them as ACC files which sound great. They go in my ipod which can go everywhere. And now all I have to do is pick my top 1000 or so that I can store for the "touch me feel me thing" that I went thru when I made the transition from LP's (size did matter then). Now that I think about it I might have already posted on this subject but there is nothing in the rules about posting twice (except the postman but I digress). I looked at the weather awhile ago and noticed they Fecking Rita Tropical Storm is now right there in southern ark. Hope you are ok Laura (thanks for the offer btw). Hi Paz, We had incredible winds and rain here as Rita migrated across our state. I tried to video tape the winds because I hadn't ever seen anything like it... constant yet full of pockets. I was in awe. I had watched the outer band of clouds from the hurricane progressively move over us the whole day. Incredibly beautiful clouds. I could see the motion in them. There were lots of tornados in our county and south of us. Nothing big damaged in our neck of the woods... lots of branches down, a small green house of mine blew over, typical loss of power, but nothing to really complain about. We were grateful for the rains because we've been in a drought of late. I had a friend from Houston here yesterday. She stayed in Hot Springs a few nights. She barely made it out of Houston and had to wait like 12 hours to get gas so she slept the first night in her car. She said there was no morality as people "ran" from the storm... people fighting for gas. She was intrigued with the whole situation, how people were making their own rules, that a two lane highway became a 5 lane one-way highway some how with three lanes on the concrete and two on the sides of the road. Police were trying to get people back in some kind of normal traffic pattern but weren't successful. Lots of people are here from both hurricanes. Plenty of volunteer work to be done and causes to donate to. Shelters full and hotels too. Everybody knows somebody who is here from Louisiana, Mississippi, or Texas. We are having a big ole southern party you could say... Arkansas style. Because that would be wrooooooooooonnnnnnnnngggggggggg. I, for one, just had those 20 "Joni Mitchell Never Lies" made up cuz it blew out my ass one day while I was dreaming, and I thought my friends who were sending me underground stuff would like one. No "profit". Not that there's anything wrong with profit, per se, but then you know you gotta get licenses and all. So the business thing is a world away. At least for me. Just felt the (perhaps paranoid?) need to distance myself from commerce. :) Em < Hi Ya'll, > > If anybody open's up a Joni bumper sticker business, I only have > one > request. The women's health director of the FDA resigned because the Bush administration overrode medical and scientific advice and did not allow the marketing of an over-the-market post coitus contraceptive. This next all happened last week. To replace her, the head of the FDA appointed a male veterinarian. Yes, the FDA appointed a veterinarian to oversee women's health issues. There was an outcry by those radical feminists who hate Bush and so the next day the FDA announced the appointment of a woman on the FDA staff to oversee women's health issues and denied they ever appointed a male veterinarian. Then the head of the FDA resigned with much regret from the administration but it seems he was also having an affair with another FDA staffer so that is why he resigned, not because he made a vet the head of women's health issues. I know this seems too stupid to be true. You know I am a liberal Bush hater liar. So Google in the news section. This stuff cannot be made up. Vince PS Molly Ivins column does make the point that if a horse lawyer was good enough for Bush for FEMA, a veterinarian is certainly good enough for Bush for women's health issues. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Sep 2005 23:10:32 EDT From: LCStanley7@aol.com Subject: Re: Joni Bumper stickers idea, and a formal request In a message dated 9/26/2005 10:05:05 P.M.
