Kilauren Gibb says she was reunited separately with her famous birth mother and her birth father about eight years ago, and calls the experience "fantastic." She says the reunions with her birth parents had a "profound and wonderful" impact on her life after years of searching that left her feeling empty and lost. She says she believes her birth mother would support the bill. Birth mothers and adoptees had joined together at a news conference to urge the government to pass new legislation that would unseal adoption records - saying that everyone has a right to know their origins. The law would allow adoptees access to their original birth certificates, which would include the names of their birth parents. It would also let birth parents access the current name of the child they gave up. The Conservatives have said the government should scrap the bill and start over, because it doesn't give people the right to keep their records secret if they choose to. http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/09/14/mitchell_adoption20050914.html?ref=rss I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take, and still somehow It's love's illusions I recall I really don't know love at all --Joan, with the wisdom of the ages __________________________________ Yahoo! I think it's BBC America. Yes, it seems like this was a real important sports event so I just kept up with it as best I could. I was a little confused as to whether it was still going on or not. Australia lost and I watched interviews with one of their star players (a blond fellow) who said this was hard because he hated to lose. He said they didn't deserve to win based on the way they were playing. Ouch! I was just confused as to whether there was another game or if it was the end of the series. Then I saw a celebration of sorts on a field with streamers and confetti just like a ticker tape parade. I thought to myself that this match was a pretty big deal. Online Josh Grossberg Following through on a threat he made last spring, the alt-rock icon has gone and sued a German-based division of General Motors and its ad agency for allegedly swiping his trademark growl for a series of European car commercials. The lawsuit, filed this week in Frankfurt, Germany, claims General Motors' Opel unit and the McCann Erickson agency produced and broadcast ads that used a "perfect impersonation" of Waits' distinctive. Waits claims that GM did the commercial only after he turned down several chances to pitch the vehicle. "Commercials are an unnatural use of my work," Waits said in April. "It's like having a cow's udder sewn to the side of my face. Painful and humiliating." On Thursday, in a statement announcing the lawsuit, Waits waxed sardonic. "Apparently, the highest compliment our culture grants artists nowadays is to be in an ad--ideally naked and purring on the hood of a new car. I have adamantly and repeatedly refused this dubious honor. Currently accepting in my absence is my German doppelganger. While the court can't make me active in radio, I am asking it to make me radioactive to advertisers." When he's not suing mad, Waits is lending a hand. Waits has joined the bill of the Sept. 20 Big Apple to the Big Easy benefit concert/pay-per-view special at New York's Radio City Music Hall that also includes Dave Matthews, Trey Anastasio, the John Mayer Trio, Joss Stone and the Meters and will raise money for hurricane relief. ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2005 #356 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
